Horned Frogs post first loss of season
FORT WORTH – The No. 4 TCU women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 defeat to Northwestern on Thursday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The Horned Frogs (4-1) allowed a goal to the Wildcats in the seventh minute of action on a shot outside the box. TCU was mainly on the defensive for the first half, but they battled and only allowed two shots from the Wildcats in the first 45 minutes. Seven Castain had a shot on goal in the 14th minute, but that would end up being the Frog's only for the entirety of the game.
The second half was mostly a similar story to the first, as TCU started primarily on the defensive side of the ball and looked to gain an edge at multiple points in the second frame. The Frogs would double their first half shot total, totaling four shots during the final 45 minutes of action.
In the 75th minute Cameron Patton put on a dribbling display which allowed her to get a slight opening outside the 18-yard box. Patton smacked a left-footed shot that barely hit off the cross bar and kept the game at a 1-0 ledger. However, the Frogs were unable to gain any other true momentum besides that moment, earning no corner kicks or shots on goal during the second half.
Kira Ybarra played the full 90 minutes in goal, tallying five impressive saves with four of them coming in the second half.
QUOTE OF THE GAME
On the players talking among themselves immediately following the game…
"It shows that it matters. I told them that I appreciate that, but it has to be done in between the white lines while the game is going on and not afterwards. It's a good leadership moment, and I'm proud of them, but we have to be better."
GAME NOTABLES
TCU will continue its stretch of four straight home games, taking on SEC and in-state foe Texas A&M. That game will take place on Sunday, Sept. 7, at 7 p.m. at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium and be streamed on ESPN+.
