Horned Frogs Dominate in Season Opener
FORT WORTH – In the first meet of the 2025-26 season, the TCU swimming and diving team defeated Incarnate Word on Saturday afternoon at the TCU Recreational Center.
The men's team secured a 246.5-65.5 victory, while the women won 237-70. TCU won all but two events out of 34 total, and one new top-10 time was recorded during the meet.
THE RUNDOWN
To start out the day, both the men's and women's 600 medley relay squads filled up the top three spots on the podium. TCU carried the momentum into the 1000 free, where Avery Dillon earned the seventh-fastest time in program history in the event with a time of 10:06.57. On the men's side, freshman Deacon Gutshall posted a 9:23.21 to take home first as well.
Sydney Inman (1:51.75) earned a victory in the 200 free, while Aaron Wilmes (1:41.76) followed suit as well on the men's side. Freshman Molly Cullen secured the first win of her career in the 50 back, touching the wall in 26.27, while experienced veteran Edgar Cicanci swam a 22.62 to come in first as well. Filip Suchanski finished right behind Cicanci, earning a 22.67 in the event.
Nina Vadovicova and Colin Clough secured wins in the 50 breast, touching the wall in 28.79 and 25.40. Transfer Aubrey Finn shined in the 100 fly, notching a time of 56.05 to grab first.
The women's 100 free was full of impressive newcomer performances for TCU, with Josephine Brant (52.44), Hannah Wachendorfer (53.17) and Molly Cullen (53.74) securing the top three spots. Peter Horton (44.41) Viktor Hristov (44.66) and Michael Valenzuela (47.35) followed suit on the men's side.
Another freshman on the women's side had an impressive day, with Nicole Christensen touching the wall in 58.97 to secure the triumph in the 100 IM. In similar fashion as most of the events earlier, the men's side also grabbed a win, this time with Luka Cavic throwing down a 52.11.
Horton earned his second win of the day during the 50 free, notching a 20.66. Newcomer Paige Taber had a 55.49 to win the 100 back, and Suchanski notched a 47.83 to get the victory as well.
Vadovicova (1:01.97) and Nikola Koltin (56.17) won the 100 breast, while freshman Taylor Steelman (4:56.19) and Wilmes (4:38.68) were victorious in the 500 free.
The final two individual events were all TCU, with Josephine Brant and Aubrey Finn (25.42) tying for first in the 50 fly and Lior Mizrahi touching the wall in 22.01 to clinch the men's side. Christensen was victorious in the 200 IM (2:05.08) as was Felipe Goncalves (1:54.22).
To close out the day, the Frogs secured the top three spots in both renditions of the 800 free relay. The women's top finishing squad posted a 7:37.70, while the winning quartet on the men's side swam a 6:43.81.
In diving, David Ekdahl continued his winning ways on 1-meter and 3-meter, posting scored of 357.70 and 338.30 to win both events. Oliver Cazaly also had a productive day, placing inside the top three on both 1-meter and 3-meter.
Emma Larcada Herrera (261.35), Estzer Kovacs (258.60) and Leah Fletcher (243.70) earned the top three spots on 1-meter, while Kovacs won 3-meter (264.60), Larcada Herrera came in second (264.20) and Jordyn Warner (255.45) finished third.

TCU will head to Houston to take on Rice, Houston and Villanova in a women's only meet from Oct. 10-11.
