
TCU Drops Opener at No. 24 Arizona

TUCSON, Ariz. – No. 24 Arizona scored five unanswered runs to hand TCU a 6-3 loss in the series opener Friday night at Hi Corbett Field. Sawyer Strosnider collected his eighth triple of the season as part of two this.
The Rundown
TCU opened the scoring in the first. Sawyer Strosnider tripled with one out and scored on a Cole Cramer ground out to make it a 1-0 game.
After Arizona tied the game on a two-out home run in the third, TCU bounced back with two runs in the fourth to regain the lead, 3-1. Chase Brunson doubled with one out and scored on a Nolan Traeger triple to put the Frogs back in front. Isaac Cadena hit a sacrifice fly to drive in Traeger for a two-run lead.
Arizona got a run back in the bottom of the inning, but Tommy LaPour battled to get a strikeout to leave the bases loaded with the Frogs still in front by one.
TCU's bats were quieted by the Wildcat bullpen as it mustered just five base runners over the final five innings. Meanwhile, the Wildcats took advantage of their opportunities. A bases-loaded single in the sixth put Arizona in front 4-3. The insurance runs came courtesy of a two-out home run in the eighth to account for the final score.
LaPour left with the lead after going five innings. He allowed two runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out five in the no-decision. Braeden Sloan (3-3) surrendered two runs on two hits and a hit batter. Louis Rodriguez went 2 1/3 allowing two runs on three hits. He fanned two. Gianluca Shinn struck out the only batter he faced.
