
Javelin Duo Advances to NCAA Outdoor Championships

Jepkemboi and Bienvenu headed to Nationals; Seven Frogs advance to quarterfinals
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – TCU track and field's javelin duo of Irene Jepkemboi and Maria Bienvenu punched their tickets to the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships, and seven Horned Frogs advanced to the quarterfinals in their respective events on Thursday evening at E.B. Cushing Stadium.
The Big 12 javelin individual champion, Jepkemboi continued her dominance in the event, claiming the top spot in the west region to advance to Eugene. The sophomore's throw of 58.36m (191-6), led the field of 48 and also broke her own TCU school record in the process. Her teammate, Bienvenu, also secured her spot at the national meet with a throw of 52.68m (172-10). It marks the second straight season that the duo will compete for a national title in the javelin throw.
On the track, TCU saw seven athletes qualify for Saturday's quarterfinals. They'll look to punch their tickets to Eugene by finishing as one of the top 12 athletes on Saturday.
Freshman Indya Mayberry and senior Iyana Gray each locked up two qualifying times in the 100m and 200m. Mayberry, the Big 12 Champion in both events, turned in an 11.15 in the 100m dash (11th) and followed it up with a 22.66 in the 200m (fourth). Gray posted times of 11.25 (16th) and 23.06 (11th), respectively. London Tucker, also a freshman, joined the two Flying Frogs in the next round of the 100m dash, running an 11.21 to grab the No. 14 spot in the quarterfinals.
Hurdlers Amari Kiluvia (100mH), Amelliah Birdow and Tia Williams (400mH) all advanced with top 10 times, putting themselves in position to qualify for the outdoor championships. In the 100m hurdles, Kiluvia won her heat in 13.15 and sits in eighth. Birdow blew away her heat, winning by over a second. Her time of 56.18 ranked second on the day. Teammate Williams posted a personal best time of 56.37 to take the fourth heat and finish third overall.
Middle distance runner Georgia Scott also moved on to the quarterfinals in the 800m, finishing top-three in her heat. The sophomore ran a 2:06.08 in her NCAA Regional debut.
A successful individual season came to a close for Samarra Monrroy in the 400m. The junior still looks to represent the Frogs on the 4x400m relay on Saturday.
