TCU falls to OSU in Big 12 Championship

OSU defends title with an 11-8 win
FORT WORTH – The TCU equestrian team went head-to-head with reigning Big 12 champions Oklahoma State in an exciting matchup at the conference championship on Saturday afternoon at KSM Bear Creek Farms. In a close battle, the Horned Frogs came up short, falling to the Cowgirls 11-8.
By the end of the day, TCU walked away with several Big 12 honors. Two Horned Frogs earned Big 12 Rider of the Year titles: Shea Graham in reining and Ashleigh Scully as Co-Rider in fences. On the jumping seat side, Ella Bostwick and Laurel Smith were named All-Big 12 Riders in the flat, while Ashleigh Scully and Lilly Goldstein also earned All-Big 12 honors in the fences. For the western squad, Jessica McAllister received All-Big 12 recognition in both the horsemanship and reining. Shea Graham joined her as an All-Big 12 Rider in the reining.
TCU also claimed three of the four Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) awards at the championship: Elizabeth West in horsemanship, Shea Graham in reining, and Lex Lipacis in flat.
FENCES
The meet began in the fences arena, where Ashleigh Scully earned the first point for the Frogs with an 84.33 ride on Donny.
HORSEMANSHIP
Horsemanship kicked off the western events with Jessica McAllister securing her point on Mister with a 74. Elizabeth West followed winning her point with a 77 on Vegas, earning her first career MOP.
FLAT
The second half of the meet started in the flat arena, where the Frogs bounced back strong, winning the event 4-1. Laurel Smith got the first point with an 80 on Cowboy. Lilly Goldstein followed with an 84.33, beating her opponent's 78.33. Ella Bostwick added another point with an 85 on Sunny. Lex Lipacis, the meet MOP, closed out the event with an impressive 90 on Dover.
REINING
The meet came down to reining, where the Frogs ultimately fell to the Cowgirls 3-1. Graham, the event MOP, earned TCU's lone point with a 72.83 on Penny.

The Horned Frogs set their sights on the NCEA National Championship tournament April 17-19 in Ocala, Fla. at the World Equestrian Center.
