No. 1 TCU coasts to 4-0 win over Gators
FORT WORTH – No. 1 TCU pitched a 4-0 shutout of Florida on Sunday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center in its final tune up for the ITA Indoor National Championships.
The Horned Frogs surrendered just three sets all dual vs. the perennial power.
TCU coasted to the doubles point via a pair of 6-3 decisions on courts one and two. Jack Pinnington and Cooper Woestendick punctuated the 1-0 lead in the second position, defeating Jeremy Jin and Henry Jefferson.
Pinnington, Lui Maxted and Woestendick completed the clean sheet with wins at one, two and four. Maxted, No. 9 in the latest ITA singles rankings, snared the match-clincher, storming past a 54th-ranked and vocal Jin, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.
TCU improved to 6-1 on the year while the Gators dropped to 4-4.
The victory extended TCU's home indoor winning streak to 18 matches. TCU improved to 37-6 on the indoor courts since 2018.
The Horned Frogs have now won 24 consecutive home duals dating back to March of 2023.
Doubles Rundown
The No. 2 ranked tandem of Maxted and Vives stormed out to a 4-1 lead over the Florida's Adhithya Ganesan and Tanapatt Nirundorn on court one. The defending NCAA doubles champions used a double break to create the multi-game lead before serving out the match. Maxted landed three aces in the final game.
Pinnington and Woestendick secured a crucial break with their match level at three games all. The tandem won two deuce points on serve, preventing the Gators from building any momentum.
Duncan Chan and Albert Pedrico engaged Kevin Edengren and JanMagnus Johnson on court three. Their match was left unfinished, with Chan and Pedrico down 3-4. Neither team dropped a service game.
Vives and Maxted improved to 14-2 in 2024-25. They have won 11 consecutive matches dating back to November's ITA Sectional Championships. The pair of four-time national champions are 10-0 vs. ranked teams and 5-0 opposite top five duos.
Pinnington and Woestendick improved to 3-2 as partners.
TCU is now 27-4 in doubles play on the indoor courts since 2023. The Frogs have claimed 11 of their last 12 possible doubles points dating back to their NCAA Championship run in May.

Woestendick was off the court in about 45 minutes. He bageled Jefferson in his first set on court four. The freshman then closed the show by winning four consecutive games in the second frame.
The Gators applied a bit of pressure, taking the second set off courts two, three and five. Pinnington, though staked TCU to a commanding 3-0 lead.
Squaring off with Ganesan on one, the 18th-ranked Pinnington coasted to 6-3 opening set victory. He gave a break point back leading 4-3 in set two, ultimately sending the action to a tiebreaker. Pinnington never gave Ganesan an opportunity to force a decisive third, riding a double break to a 5-2 tiebreaker lead on his way to a 6-3, 7-6 (2) win.
Maxted broke Jin one final time while level at 4-4 in set three to thwart the Gators' prospects of a point.
TCU rested Vives – tabbed sixth in the ITA rankings – and Pedrico, who typically occupy courts two and six, respectively.
Chan was level with Johnson, 6-4, 4-6, 3-3 on court three at the time of the clinch.
Filip Apltauer got the nod in the fifth position and was on his way to his third straight win on the purple courts. He led Nirundorn, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 3-0.
Julian Alonso trailed Niels Villard via a 3-6, 1-2 margin in a match that started following Woestendick's victory.
Pinnington improved his career record on court one to 19-4.
Maxted picked up his team leading 10th ranked singles win in 2024-25.
Woestendick, an early enrollee in January, notched the second singles victory of his TCU tenure.

For the first time in the tournament's 52-year history, the draw is split between two sites, with Baylor and SMU playing host. The pair of eight-team pods were determined via a snake draft following the conclusion of ITA Kickoff Weekend. TCU received the right to pick second by virtue of occupying the No. 2 slot in the ITA Coaches Poll and will play the opening two rounds at Baylor's Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
Each team is guaranteed three matches. The semifinals and final will be staged on Feb. 17-18 the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on the campus of SMU.
In TCU's pod are No. 4 Ohio State, No. 6 Columbia, No. 7 Duke, No. 9 San Diego, No. 11 Stanford and No. 21 UCF and the host Bears.
