Punch leads the Frogs with 18 points and six rebounds
CINCINNATI – A 13-0 deficit set the tone for the rest of the game in TCU's 75-63 loss at Cincinnati Saturday at Fifth Third Arena.
The Horned Frogs (15-12, 8-8) were led by freshman David Punch, who was one-point shy of his season-high with 18 points and tied for the team lead with six rebounds. Vasean Allette and Ernest Udeh Jr. also contributed six rebounds each, but overall, TCU lost the battle of the boards 39-32.
After missing their first six shots and trailing 13-0, the Frogs went on a 15-6 run to cut it to four, 19-15, with just under seven minutes to go in the half. A 3-pointer by Jace Posey made it a three-point game, 23-20 with 4:20 until halftime. TCU shot 31.3 percent from the field in the first half and trailed 31-24 at the break.
Cincinnati (16-11, 6-10) started the second half with a three and for the next 18 minutes, led by double figures and as many as 20 points.
Under three minutes to go, TCU scored six-straight points to cut the deficit to nine with 2:15 to play. On the following possession, Allette missed a layup, which would have cut it to seven with two minutes to play.
TCU made more field goals and more 3-pointers than UC, but the difference on offense came at the free throw line where the Frogs were 3-of-4 and the Bearcats were 15-of-17.
Joining Punch in double figures were Allette with 13 and Trazarien White with 10.
Jizzle James led the Bearcats with 18 points and four assists.
