TCU receiver catches the walk-off TD
MOBILE, Ala. -- TCU wide receiver Jack Bech was named the Senior Bowl's Most Valuable Player after his game-winning touchdown catch as time expired Saturday.
Bech's 2-yard reception on a fourth-and-goal with 7 seconds left gave his American Team a 22-19 win over the National Team.
Bech was in jersey No. 7 to honor his late brother Tiger Bech who was killed during the terrorist attack on New Year's Day in New Orleans. Tiger Bech wore No. 7 during his playing days at Princeton. The winning touchdown pass was thrown by Memphis Tiger quarterback Seth Henigan.
Bech finished with six receptions for 68 yards to cap a week in which he shined in team practices.
As a senior this year, Bech earned All-America honors as he became just the fifth player in TCU history to record a 1,000-yard receiving season. His 1,034 yards place fourth at TCU, trailing only first-round NFL Draft picks Josh Doctson (1,327, 2015), Quentin Johnston (1,069, 2022) and Jalen Reagor (1,061, 2018). Bech's nine touchdown catches and 62 receptions rank fifth and seventh, respectively, and were the most by a Horned Frog since Reagor's 72 grabs and nine scores in 2018.
Bech was one of just five Power Four Conference players to reach 200 receiving yards in a game this season when he had a career-best 200 yards on nine catches against UCF. He totaled a career-high 10 receptions for 131 yards and two touchdowns in a 38-27 win at Kansas.
