The game will pit the Frogs against #16 USC on Tuesday, Dec. 30.
FORT WORTH – On the 10th anniversary of one of the most improbable comebacks in college football history, the TCU Horned Frogs are headed to San Antonio to play in the 2025 Valero Alamo Bowl.
The game, slated for Tuesday, Dec. 30 at 8 p.m., will see the Frogs (8-4) pitted against the No. 16 USC Trojans (9-3) out of the Big Ten Conference. The game will air on ESPN from the Alamodome.
TCU's history in the game is an explosive one as fans of the Purple and White will certainly recall the unforgettable moments of the 2016 game (played at the end of the 2015 season) that saw TCU rally from a 31-0 halftime deficit - on the back of a legendary half-time shirt swap - to win 47-41. Quarterback Bram Kohlhausen earned offensive MVP honors as he threw for 351 yards and accounted for four touchdowns including the triple-overtime winner, a rush around the right end.
In the 2017 game, the No. 13 Frogs defeated No. 15 Stanford 39-37 that saw 22 fourth quarter points between the two schools. Linebacker Travin Howard repeated as defensive MVP, and Cole Bunce's 33-yard field goal with 3:07 remaining proved to be the game winner. A final drive by the Cardinal was thwarted with 2:01 to go on an interception by Innis Gaines to seal it.
The match up against the Trojans is a fitting historical connection as well. TCU's program resurgence in the late 1990's began with the 1998 team's victory over USC in the Sun Bowl, 28-19, under then-head coach Dennis Franchione. Following that year, TCU went on to win four conference championships in the next seven seasons and double-digit win totals under Franchione and Gary Patterson in nine of the next 13 seasons. The Frogs are 3-2 all-time against USC and have not met since that Sun Bowl game.
