TCU ties school smallbore record
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A big day in smallbore helped lead No. 7 TCU to a first place finish in a match featuring four top-15 squads. The Horned Frogs topped the field featuring No. 2 Georgia Southern, No. 3 Alaska-Fairbanks and No. 15 Air Force, firing an NCAA season-best 4,753. The score is tied for the second-best in program history.
The Frogs posted five of the of the top 10 aggregate scores in the match led by Katie Zaun's season-high 1,194. Mikole Hogan finished second with an 1,187 followed by Marissa Fedora in third (1,184). Rylie Passmore matched her season-high, shooting a 1,182 to finish fifth. With a career-high 1,180 aggregate score, Mackenzie Kring finished eighth.
Four Frogs set or matched their career high in smallbore en route to tying the school record with a score of 2,365 in the discipline. The score is the top mark in the NCAA this season.
TCU posted four of the top five scores in smallbore. Zaun matched her career high with a 596 in smallbore to lead all shooters. It's tied for the fourth-highest score in school history. Fedora set a career-high with a 592 as did Passmore with a 588. Hogan's 589 rounded out the counters for TCU.
Not factoring into the team score, Rosenlew finished eighth among shooters with a 583 and Kring rounded out the top 10 with a career-high 582.
In air rifle, two Frogs fired career-highs, while two others set a season-best. The Frogs turned in a 2,388 in the discipline.
Zaun led all shooters with a season-high 598. Kring set a career-high with a 598 and Hogan matched her career high with an identical score of 598. Passmore's 594 also contributed to the team score.
While not factoring into the team score, Christina Hillinger turned in her best score of the season with a 595.
Georgia Southern finished second in the match, shooting a 4,710 (2,332 smallbore; 2,378 air rifle). Alaska shot a 4,170 (2,329 smallbore, 2,381 air rifle) to finish third followed by Air Force in fourth with a 4,683 (2,311 smallbore, 2,372 air rifle). Schreiner shot a 2,132 in smallbore and 2,241 in air rifle for a team score of 4,373.
TCU will face the same four teams on Sunday at the US Olympic Training Center. The match is slated to get underway at 9 a.m. (CT).
