TCU continues its unbeaten road record
TUCSON, Ariz. – An early goal from Emma Yolinsky was all the No. 9 TCU women's soccer team needed as they earned a victory over Arizona, 1-0, on Thursday night at Murphey Field at Mulcahy Soccer Stadium.
THE RUNDOWN
The Horned Frogs (13-2-1, 7-1-1 Big 12) saw a physical first half against Arizona. Both teams earned a variety of chances with TCU continuing its trend of controlling possession time throughout. The Frogs would strike first in the showdown when in the 13th minute Cameron Patton raced down the sideline and crossed in a ball that ended up at the far post and found Emma Yolinsky in a mix of players who headed it in to gain the 1-0 lead.
TCU was able to hold onto the 1-0 advantage in the following 30 minutes in the half despite the Wildcats leading the shot advantage, 5-3, at the end of the first frame thanks to some key defensive stands and saves by Olivia Geller.
Sydney Becerra and Filippa Hoegild both had quality opportunities during the second half, with Becerra's shot from outside the box getting saved by the Wildcat goalkeeper and Hoegild's chance for her first career goal just missing wide left.
Besides these two chances, there were only a pair of other shots fired off during the second half between the two sides. In yet another physical and intense 45 minutes of play, neither team was able to put one in the back of the net, and TCU was able to hold onto its early goal and secure the victory.
Geller played all 90 minutes tonight in goal and recorded three saves.
QUOTE OF THE GAME
Overall thoughts…
"Was pleased with our effort overall. Thought our kids battled for 90 minutes. I thought in the beginning of the game we started off on the front foot and did a really good job of creating some attacking opportunities and scored a really good goal. They (Arizona) made it really hard for us. Hats off to them for making it hard. It's hard to win on the road, it's hard to win conference games. Really proud of the group and the effort that they put in and happy that we got three points."
