The TCU women's tennis team was defeated by the Texas A&M Aggies in the second round of ITA Kickoff Weekend
COLLEGE STATION, TEXAS- The TCU women's tennis team moved to 1-1 to open the season after a 4-0 loss to No. 2 Texas A&M at the Mitchell Tennis Center.
LEE'S THOUGHTS
"The oubles point was a really tough one, our team played well and the ladies put themselves in position to win that point," said head coach Lee Taylor Walker. "We were more courageous than our previous match, but still at times doubtful and hesitant and ultimately that cost us the doubles point. In singles Raquel and Yuki did a great job of fighting back and had all the momentum in those matches when stopped.
"OSU outplayed us at four and six.. credit to them there for just bringing a higher level than us. On one and two it was a high level and we didn't capitalize on our early opportunities at one, as well as Isa's second set at two. Overall, high quality tennis from all opponents and it doesn't take much for us to see five points on the board for the Frogs.
"We are entering a stretch in our season that is probably the most important. It's time to use everything we have learned up to this point and have no regrets from here forward for any mental mistakes or lapses in courage. Conference is strong this year, but we know we have the talent to beat anyone. We are growing in our mental toughness every match and I'm proud of the girls for that. Already pumped and focused on KSU and getting better there and bringing home a win."
THE RUNDOWN
The match began in doubles play where Texas A&M won on courts one and three to take the doubles point.
In singles, Texas A&M secured wins on courts one, two and three to clinch the match 4-0. In her first match as a Frog, Maya Droz fought in a close first set before falling 5-7. Caught in a 2-2 stalemate in the second set, the Aggies clinched the match before the set could be completed. On court five, Yu-Chin Tsai lost 1-6 in the first set, before taking a 5-4 lead in the second that was cut short due to Texas A&M clinching.
