Frogs fire top marks in both disciplines on Monday
FORT WORTH – The No. 3 TCU women's rifle team completed the weekend sweep with a 4,721-4,693 win over Ohio State Monday at the TCU Rifle Range. The Horned Frogs produced the top three aggregate scores in the match.
Four Frogs recorded career-highs in aggregate total in the match. Marissa Fedora (1,182) and Meredith Stuart (1,154) set a new standard for themselves, while Ziva Swick (1,180) and Kaylynn Slaughter (1,174) matched their career-highs.
Katie Zaun led all shooters in the match with an aggregate of 1,187. She was followed by Hogan in second with an aggregate of 1,184
The Frogs raced out to a solid start in the match, shooting a 2,350 in smallbore, topping Ohio State's mark of 2,327. Air rifle was a much closer affair, but it was the Frogs that fired the best mark, topping Ohio State 2,371-2,366.
TCU fired five of the top six scores in smallbore and eight of the top 10. Zaun matched her season-high and tied for the match-best in the discipline, shooting a 592. Hogan contributed a 589 to finish third amongst all shooters. Fedora rounded out the top five with a 586. Rylie Passmore's 583 also contributed to the team score.
Not factoring into the final tally was Swick's 587 which was the fourth-best mark in the match. Annie Downum fired a career-high 582 and Stuart a 572.
In air rifle, the Frogs shot the top five marks. Fedora led all shooters with a career-high 596 in the discipline. Zaun and Hogan fired identical marks of 595. Passmore contributed a 592 and Anne White a 589 to the team score.
Micah Hames and Slaughter each fired a 594 and Swick a 593 to place in the top 10 among all shooters. Stuart continued her strong performance on the day with a career-high 582 in air rifle.
Ohio State was led by Derek Keiser in smallbore. He tied for the top mark among all shooters with a 592. In air rifle, Gabriella Sprague was the Buckeyes' top shooter with a 593.
TCU will wrap up a three-match homestand on Saturday when it hosts No. 2 Georgia Southern.
