Frogs will shoot two matches this weekend
FORT WORTH - The TCU rifle team is starting off the spring season with a pair of matches at home. The Horned Frogs will host Ohio State and UTEP on Sunday followed by a dual meet against the Buckeyes on Monday. All matches will be held at the TCU Rifle Range. All 11 members of the team will shoot in both matches this weekend.
TCU opens the spring campaign ranked fifth in the NCAA team standings. Its season average aggregate score of 4,736 has the Frogs among the nation's top programs. The Frogs own a 2,382.8 air rifle average which is fifth among competing teams. In smallbore, the Frogs have a season average of 2,346.8 which ranks fourth nationally.
Leading the way is Katie Zaun who boasts the top aggregate average in the NCAA at 1,189. She sits second nationally with a 598 air rifle season average and is one of four NCAA athletes to shoot a perfect 600 in the discipline this season. In smallbore, her season average of 591 ranks third.
Mike Hogan along with a trio of freshmen, Christina Hillinger, Rylie Passmore and Ziva Swick, all turned in solid fall campaigns, ranking in the top 40 nationally in aggregate average.
Hogan has eclipsed the 590 plateau in smallbore twice this season and owns a 588 season average in the discipline. She has shot a 591 or better in air rifle in all matches, twice tying her career high of 598 in the discipline.
Hillinger has served as a counter in every match, averaging a 583.33 in smallbore and a 594.83 in air rifle. Fedora (582.33 smallbore; 588.17 air rifle), Passmore (582.50 smallbore; 592.50 air rifle) and Swick (579.80 smallbore; 594.67 air rifle) have all served as counters in a majority of the matches this season.
Ohio State comes into the match sitting 11th in the national team standings. Viktor Kiss leads the team with season averages of 593.4 in air rifle, 583.6 in smallbore, and 1177.0 in aggregate. UTEP, currently ranked 16th, is led by Carlee Valenta. She owns season averages of 594 in air rifle, 577 in smallbore, and 1,171 in aggregate.
