Frogs record three doubles in the game
ARLINGTON, Texas – Despite three doubles in the game, TCU could not put together a big inning as Oklahoma blanked the Horned Frogs, 4-0, in the winner's bracket of the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships at Globe Life Field. Sam Myers had two hits in the contest.
The Rundown
TCU had the first opportunity to get on the scoreboard in the first on a one-out double off the bat of Sam Myers. A diving catch in left field on a ball hit by Kurtis Byrne kept the Horned Frogs off the board.
After working out of a two-on one out jam with a double play in the third, Payton Tolle (7-4) could not escape a pair of one-out base runners in the fourth. Jackson Nicklaus doubled to make it a 1-0 game. A two out single doubled the Sooner advantage. Back-to-back home runs to lead off the sixth extended Oklahoma's lead to 4-0.
The Frogs would have just three base runners the remainder of the game, a two-out double from Myers in the sixth, a lead-off double for Karson Bowen in the eighth and a one-out single from Byrne in the ninth.
Tolle took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings. He walked three and struck out nine. Zachary Cawyer allowed a hit in 1 2/3 innings of work and Chase Hoover worked around a lead-off single in his lone frame, tallying two strikeouts.
