Abeldt strikes out a career-high nine
ARLINGTON, Texas – A dynamite start for Ben Abledt and early runs helped TCU stave off elimination as the Horned Frogs defeated Kansas State Thursday at the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championships at Globe Life Field. Abeldt fanned a career-high nine batters. At the plate, Sam Myers went 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
The Rundown
Ben Abeldt (3-0) was solid in making his first start of the season. The sophomore went a season-high five innings, allowing a run on three hits. He didn't walk a batter and struck out a career-high nine. He allowed a base runner in only two of his three innings on the mound.

Five hits in the second resulted in a trio of TCU runs as it extended its lead to 4-0. Karson Bowen got the scoring started with an RBI-single. Brody Green and Myers followed with RBI base hits. The lead grew to 6-0 in the fourth as Myers delivered once again with a bases loaded, two-run single in the fourth.
Kansas State got on the board with a two-out run in the fourth, but TCU got the run back in the top of the sixth. Myers was hit by the pitch to lead off the inning and scored ahead of the tag on a chopper to first for a 7-1 lead.
The Wildcats pulled within three, 7-4, with a three spot in the bottom of the sixth, but again the Horned Frogs had a response, scoring a run in the seventh and eighth to rebuild a five-run cushion, 9-4. Luke Boyers worked a lead-off walk and two batters later scored on a Brody Green base hit. Kurtis Byrne executed a hit-and-run to drive in Silva in the eighth.
