McFarlane finishes third in decathlon, sets school record
WACO, Texas – Irene Jepkemboi won the Big 12 title in the javelin on Day Two of the Big 12 Outdoor Championships at Clyde Hart Track and Field Stadium.
The freshman won the javelin with her mark of 55.67m (182-7) which she achieved on her third attempt. She had the highest-seeded throw heading into the event with her season-best 57.23m (187-9) from the Texas A&M Invite (March 23).
The Horned Frogs have won the women's javelin in back-to-back seasons as Sydney Juszczyk won it in 2023.
Also having a strong day in the javelin was Maria Bienvenu with her fourth-place finish of 51.25m (168-1). The duo scored 15 points for the Horned Frogs.
Joel McFarlane continued his stellar multi weekend with a third-place finish in the decathlon. He recorded personal-bests in the 100mh (15.08) and pole vault (4.50m) en route to a bronze medal. His 7,619 points is also the new program record.
In the women's long jump, Emma Seetoo's leap of 6.08m (19-11.50) was good for seventh.
Elise Dobson's total of 4,881 points in the heptathlon earned her a 13th-place finish.
Due to several weather delays, no running prelims were held Friday night. Preliminary events scheduled for Friday will be a timed final Saturday with a full schedule to be announced.
