Tolle fans 13 in the contest
FORT WORTH – Another terrific outing from Payton Tolle on the mound spearheaded TCU to a 6-2 win over Houston Friday night at Lupton Stadium. Tolle fanned 13 batters in 8 2/3 innings and on the offensive side, Chase Brunson had two hits and drove in three.
The Rundown
Payton Tolle (3-1) fell an out shy of his second straight complete game. He finished the night allowing two runs on three hits. He walked one and struck out 13 over 8 2/3 innings. Through the first eight innings, Tolle allowed just two base runners, both coming in the third. A lead-off home run in the ninth broke up a string of 16 straight batters retired.
TCU opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the third. Peyton Chatagnier doubled with one out and scored on a Chase Brunson base hit. With two outs, Logan Maxwell lined a single up the middle to plate Brunson for a 2-0 lead.
The Frogs added a run in the third on a Karson Bowen sacrifice fly that drove in Anthony Silva, who had led off the inning with a double.
Chatagnier keyed another run-scoring inning as he opened the seventh with a triple. Brunson collected his second RBI-single of the game to make it a 4-0 ballgame.
Three straight hitters reached to open up the eighth. Kurtis Byrne doubled and scored on a Silva base hit. With the bases loaded and two outs, Brunson worked a walk to extend the lead to 6-0.
Houston picked up a pair of runs in the ninth to account for the final score. Zachary Cawyer allowed a hit and struck out a batter in his 1/3 of an inning.
