NEW YORK CITY - No. 2 TCU made its return to college tennis' marquee event in grand fashion, sweeping No. 15 seed Arizona State 4-0 on Friday inside the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
TCU flexed its muscle early in doubles, winning on courts two and three. In singles play, it was more of the same, as the Horned Frogs took took the opening set on all six courts. TCU then clinched with sweeps on the bottom.
The Horned Frogs advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals, where they will meet No. 10 Texas A&M at 11 a.m.
"Good start to Indoor Nationals," said head coach David Roditi. "We played well and got the doubles points. Sebastian Gorzny got off court four and gave the Frogs a lot of opportunities to close it out. I am happy to be a part of this event and hopefully we can play at the main site at some point. I have heard it is nice. Looking forward to next match against Texas A&M. Go Frogs!"
TCU has now won 10 consecutive ITA Indoor National Championships matches. Friday's win boosted Roditi's career record at the tournament to 16-8. TCU has claimed 32 consecutive indoor duals, including four straight vs. ranked opposition.
Doubles Rundown
Jake Fearnley and Jack Pinnington were the first Horned Frog duo to finish. The tandem took down Arizona State's Vergara Del Puerto and Murphy Cassone 6-1.
Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted clinched the doubles point for the Horned Frogs, as the 20th-ranked pair defeated Bullard and Constantinos Koshis 6-3. Chan and Maxted are 5-0 in duals this season.
