Okonkwo, Taiwo Qualify for Olympic Games Paris

TCU women's basketball alumnae will compete for Team Nigeria in 5-on-5
FORT WORTH – TCU women's basketball has representation at the Summer Olympics.
Program alumnae Amy Okonkwo (2019) and Tomi Taiwo (2023) qualified for 5-on-5 Olympic basketball and will compete for Team Nigeria at the Olympic Games Paris.
Team Nigeria defeated Senegal on Feb. 8 in the first round of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament to ultimately punch its ticket to France. The Nigerians were one of 12 teams to qualify.
Okonkwo averaged a team-leading 15.3 points along with six rebounds during the qualifying phase. Taiwo saw action in all three games and played 14 minutes in a defeat to Team USA.
This will be Okonkwo's second Olympics appearance. She competed for Team Nigeria in 5-on-5 at the 2020 Tokyo Games.
A 6-2 forward, Okonkwo averaged 13.1 points and 6.6 rebounds over three seasons in Fort Worth from 2017-19. She helped TCU produce a 59-43 combined overall record and reach the WNIT semifinals in 2018 and 2019. Okonkwo currently plays professionally in France for Saint-Amand Hainaut Basket in the Ligue Féminine de Basketbal.
Taiwo graduate transferred to TCU for the 2022-23 campaign following a four-year run at Iowa. She started 30-of-31 games for the Horned Frogs and led the team in scoring (14.5 ppg) and steals per game (1.77). Taiwo, 5-10, recently inked her first professional contract with Esgueira in the Portuguese Liga Feminina.
Women's 5-on-5 competition begins on July 28 and culminates with medal games on Aug. 11.
