Horned Frogs back in action against Houston on Nov. 20
MANHATTAN, Kan. – No. 18 TCU volleyball fell to Kansas State in straight sets on Friday night at the Morgan Family Arena.
The Horned Frog defense struggled to slow down Kansas State's Aliyah Carter, who finished with 22 kills on a .308 clip offensively. For TCU, 14 kills each from Jalyn Gibson and Melanie Parra wasn't enough firepower to force a fourth set.
Battling for an edge to set the tone, TCU and Kansas State saw 16 ties and 11 lead changes in the opening set. The Wildcats held a one-point lead at the media timeout, but it was quickly erased by a 3-0 TCU run, which forced a timeout at 19-17. The Frogs were the first to 20; however, a packed home court advantage fueled a 3-0 scoring burst for Kansas State to put the Wildcats back in front 23-22 and helped them take set one 25-23.
TCU came out strong in the second, opening up a 10-6 lead, but saw it slip away as Kansas State went on an 11-1 run that featured four unanswered points to tie the score at 10 and an 8-0 run, which burned two timeouts in the process. Parra was able to stop the bleeding at 18-12 and helped the Frogs attempt to climb back into the set.
The Frogs clawed all the way back within two at 20-22, forcing KSU to call a timeout. Out of the break, Gibson cut the lead to one, and Parra tied it up at 23 all. Both teams managed to get set point, sending the set into extra points, where the Wildcats hung on for a 27-25 victory.
Battling down two sets to none, Parra started to heat up in the third. Still, Kansas State never trailed in the set as they completed the sweep, taking set three 25-23.
No. 18 TCU is back in action in Schollmaier Arena for its final two home matches of the regular season on Wednesday, Nov. 20, against Houston and Friday, Nov. 22, against Texas Tech.
