Wenzel makes five 3-pointers and finishes with 15 points
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Playing without starting center Ernest Udeh Jr., the TCU men's basketball team fell at Michigan, 76-64, in front of a sold out Crisler Center Friday in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Udeh was ruled out for the game due to a back injury from a fall in TCU's previous game against Texas State. Playing without his team-leading 9.3 rebounds per game, the Horned Frogs (3-1) were outrebounded by the Wolverines (2-1), 41-29.
TCU led for one possession, 10-9, following a free throw by Vasean Allette. However, Michigan controlled the game throughout, shooting 50 percent from the field and making nine 3-pointers to combat 21 turnovers.
TCU, which shot 34 percent, scored the last six points of the first half to cut what was once a nine-point deficit, into three points. A last second layup by Noah Reynolds made the halftime score 34-31.
After Michigan led by 11 with 13:57 to play, TCU slowly started to chip away. A layup by freshman Micah Robinson brought the game to within two points, 60-58, with 6:55 to play. However, the Frogs made one of their final eight shot attempts as the Wolverines' winning margin was its largest lead of the game.
Trazarien White led the Frogs with 16 points. Brendan Wenzel made all five of TCU's 3-pointers on nine attempts and added five rebounds.
Freshman David Punch made his first start in absence of Udeh and finished with six points and seven rebounds. Fellow freshman Micah Robinson matched his best point total of the season with nine points.
Former Michigan player Frankie Collins had seven points, including a huge one-handed dunk in the second half, and a team-best three assists.
Michigan was led by Danny Wolf's 14 points and 14 rebounds.
The Horned Frogs return to action Tuesday at 7 p.m. when they host Alcorn State. It will be shown on ESPN+.
