For Marcel Brooks, TCU's fifth-year senior linebacker, success is about more than just winning on the field; it's about setting a foundation for his future and creating a legacy for his family. Known for his versatility, Brooks has become a cornerstone of the Horned Frogs' defense. But beyond his athletic achievements, he's driven by his biggest inspiration: his son.
Brooks has always valued resilience and adaptability, traits that define both his football journey and his ambitions outside of the game. He started his career as a linebacker in 2019 but has been switched to various positions on both offense and defense throughout his years at TCU. "As I got further in my career, it started helping me with both sides of the ball, being able to play defense, knowing offensive tendencies, playing all different types of positions," Brooks reflects. "I have played four or five different positions in college, so being able to do that makes me a switchblade. It taught me how to easily adapt."
This adaptability came in handy as Brooks moved from linebacker to TCU's "stud" position under a new defensive coordinator, yet another transition he handled with ease. "It was just a very easy transition because of the multiple positions I played in college," he explains.
He plans to declare for the NFL Draft following his time at TCU, but has also considered other avenues to express his versatility and creativity.
Inspired by his son, Brooks envisions a future where he can create a life that combines business, creativity, and stability. "I want to start getting into real estate and clothing design," he shares. "I'd like to fly to a different country and figure out different types of fabrics, different types of people, unique styles that people wear, and bring that back to America. I want to be able to change peoples' views on clothes."
Brooks plans to use his platform as a high-achieving athlete to help market his brand and influence others on and off the football field.
For Brooks, his ten-month-old son's future is a powerful motivator, driving him to excel in all aspects of his life. Whether he's on the field as a leader or planning his post-football career, Brooks is motivated to build something lasting. As he prepares to wrap up his college football journey, Brooks is ready to tackle the next opportunity that comes his way.
