Williams and Horned Frogs go for season sweep of Bears on Friday
WACO, Texas – No. 18 TCU volleyball takes a quick trip down I-35 to face a familiar foe in No. 23 Baylor on Friday, Oct. 25, at 5 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.
TCU NOTABLES
• Friday's contest will mark the second meeting between the two teams this season, with the Frogs defeating the Bears 3-1 in Fort Worth on Oct. 6.
• TCU volleyball has caught the attention of the nation, earning the No. 14 spot in the NCAA Selection Committee's in-season ranking.
• The Frogs also checked in at No. 16 in the VolleyballMag Super 16 Media Poll in addition to their No. 18 ranking in the AVCA/TARAFLEX Coaches' Poll.
• In TCU's win over Cincinnati last Saturday, Melanie Parra, Jalyn Gibson and Becca Kelley combined for 62 of the team's 67 kills (92.5 percent).
• At 14-4, the Frogs are off to their best start to a season since 2015 (14-4).
• Melanie Parra is the first player in Division I women's volleyball history to win back-to-back AVCA/GameChanger Player of the Week honors (Sept. 10 & 17).
• Parra took home her fifth Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week honor, one shy of the conference's single season record.

A FAMILIAR FOE
• When TCU faces off against Baylor on Friday in Waco it will mark head coach Jason Williams' sixth meeting against his former boss and team.
• Williams was instrumental in helping Baylor, posting six consecutive 20-win seasons and NCAA Tournament appearances during his time in Waco under head coach Ryan McGuyre.
• In 2019, Baylor earned a No. 1 national ranking, won the program's first Big 12 championship with a 15-1 conference record, was the NCAA Tournament's No. 1 overall seed and reached the Final Four.
• Since arriving in Fort Worth, Williams has helped the Frogs post a 4-1 record against Baylor.
MEL'S WORLD
• For the fifth time in eight weeks, Melanie Parra was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 22.
• The senior led the lead with a blistering 6.93 points per set, helped the Frogs go 2-0 and picked up her 1,000th career kill.
• It marks her seventh career weekly honor from the Big 12, the most by any Horned Frog in program history, passing Audrey Nalls and élan McCall (6).
• With five weekly honors on the season, Parra is just one away from tying the conference's single-season record.
SHE'S JUST A FRESHMAN
• Redshirt freshman Becca Kelley had one of the best weeks of her young career.
• The Rockwall native ranked 10th overall in the conference and led all freshmen with 3.71 kills per set.
• Kelley was also one of the most efficient attackers in the league, boasting the ninth best hitting percentage with a .467 clip.
• The highlight of her weekend was a career-best 19 kills on 34 swings for a .441 hitting percentage against Cincinnati.
• Kelley's 19 kills are also tied for the most by a freshman in the Big 12 this season with Arizona's Carlie Cisnero.
CHASING 1,000
• Entering the day with 983 kills, Melanie Parra tallied 22 on a .362 clip to become the 14th player in TCU history with 1,000 kills on Saturday, Oct. 19.
• What makes the feat even more impressive is how quickly Parra reached the milestone.
• In three seasons at Texas, she only totaled 169 kills across 171 sets played.
• Since transferring to TCU in 2023, she has seen her production skyrocket, racking up 836 kills in just 177 sets to eclipse 1,000 in her career.
THE BIG THREE
• The Horned Frogs put on an offensive clinic for fans, led by Gibson, Kelley and Parra. The trio accounted for 62 of the team's 67 kills (92.5 percent).
• Parra and Gibson finished with 22 and 21 kills, respectively. It marks the second time the two teammates have both had 20+ kills in the same match this season and just the 11th time in school history two Frogs have both recorded 20+ kills.
GET WRECKED
• TCU made quick work of Texas Tech, sweeping the Red Raiders to wrap up a three-match road swing.
• The Frogs hit .352 as a team and were lights out at the service line, finishing the night with seven aces.
• It marked the fifth straight win over Texas Tech and TCU's first sweep in Lubbock since 2015.
