AMES, IA. - The No. 8 ranked TCU women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 11 matches and its winning streak to five games as the Horned Frogs cruised past Iowa State, 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Cyclone Sports Complex. Bella Diorio led the way for the Frogs as she notched a brace. Megan Plaschko tied her season-high with five saves.
The Rundown
TCU jumped out to an early lead with a goal in the seventh minute. Seven Castain found Bella Diorio dashing down the middle of the pitch and placed a perfect ball for Diorio for a one-touch goal.
The Frogs carried that 1-0 lead into the half, holding a 12-5 advantage in shots.
Just three minutes into the second half, AJ Hennessey extended the Frogs' lead to 2-0. Hennessey took the ball around midfield and put her defender in a spin cycle with an array of elaborate moves before firing a rocket into the back of the net.
In the 51st minute, Diorio struck again for her second goal of the contest. Oli Pena got the play started with a feed to Hennessey who found a streaking Diorio. She worked around her defender and fired home a low shot to the far post for a 3-0 lead.
In the 60th minute, Caroline Kelly made it 4-0. Diorio beat her defender down the line and found Kelly crashing towards goal. Kelly used her left foot to put the ball past the Cyclone goalkeeper.
Iowa State broke up the Frogs' shutout bid in the 76th minute to make the score, 4-1. Megan Plaschko and Olivia Geller combined to make six stops in the game.
