FORT WORTH - The No. 12 ranked TCU women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to eight games with a 3-1 win over West Virginia at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium on Thursday night. AJ Hennessey, Morgan Brown and Maddie Mooney all scored in the second half offensive explosion that propelled the Horned Frogs to the victory.
The Rundown
After a scoreless first half that saw the Frogs outshoot the Mountaineers, 7-3, the Mountaineers struck first in the 51st minute.
TCU quickly responded as AJ Hennessey found the back of the net just 25 seconds later.. Oli Pena fed Hennessey the ball in the middle part of the field. Hennessey dribbled to the top right of the box and delivered a world class strike past the Mountaineer goalkeeper.
Six minutes later, Morgan Brown gave the Frogs the lead as she collected a rebound with her left foot and fired the ball low and hard to the right corner to put the Frogs up 2-1. The goal marked Brown's first career game-winner.
The Frogs scored their third goal off a set piece in the 70th minute as Maddie Mooney scored off assists from Bella Diorio and Brown. Diorio lobbed a service feed into the box that found Brown, who then found Mooney for the goal.
Quote of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On why his team is playing well
"It is a lot of different things, these younger kids are starting to figure out how to play college soccer and we are starting to find our rhythm. When we move the ball around it is pretty fun to watch and hard to deal with."
