Is a 6-3 sophomore middle blocker for TCU volleyball
FORT WORTH – Schollmaier Arena is now home to a multi-sport athlete.
TCU announced the addition of Sarah Sylvester, a sophomore middle blocker on the Horned Frogs volleyball team, to its roster for the remainder of the 2023-24 season.
Sylvester received an invitation to join the team after TCU held open tryouts on Thursday and Friday as a result of compounding injuries within the program.
Originally from Livonia, Michigan, Sylvester is the first TCU student-athlete in the Big 12 era to play varsity basketball and volleyball.
A 6-3 post, Sylvester earned four varsity letters on the hardwood for storied Marian High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. She averaged 11.3 points, 7.5 rebounds and 2.5 blocks per game her senior year. Sylvester earned All-Catholic High School League honors as a junior and senior.
Sylvester has been nothing short of an instant success on the volleyball court over her first three semesters in Fort Worth. She helped lead the Horned Frogs to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in 2022 and 2023. Sylvester is the school record for most blocks in a three-set match (13).
In 2023, Sylvester led TCU and ranked sixth in the Big 12 in blocks per set. She tallied 138 blocks (1.16 BS) over her sophomore campaign, which rank sixth on TCU's single-season records list. She was the only player to start all 32 matches for TCU.
Sylvester posted the best single season hitting percentage and blocks per set average by a freshman in program history in 2022. She hit .323 and averaged 1.12 blocks per set. Her blocks per set average was the 10th-best among all D1 freshmen.
TCU returns to the court at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday when it hosts UCF.
