
TCU Takes No. 10 Texas to the Wire in Austin

AUSTIN, Texas – TCU gave No. 10 Texas all it could handle for 40 minutes on Wednesday in the Moody Center before eventually bowing out 72-60 in a Big 12 bout.
The Horned Frogs held a Texas team averaging 89.5 points per game to a season-low 41 percent shooting clip and 22 makes from the field. TCU, which had 10 available players, led for nearly half of the second quarter and was within a point of the Longhorns at 56-55 with 7:11 to go.
Texas (16-1, 3-1) canned back-to-back-to back 3-pointers to close the first half ahead 34-26. The hosts scored 11 of the first 16 points out of the locker room and assumed a 45-31 advantage – the largest lead of the game –at the 5:08 mark of the period.
TCU countered with a 10-0 run that was bookended by 3-pointers by Una Jovanovic and Victoria Flores to trim the deficit to 49-48 with under a minute to go.
Five unanswered points off a mid-range jumper from Aaliyah Roberson and Madison Conner pulled the Horned Frogs (14-3, 1-3 Big 12) within one in the final frame.
Flores' second 3-pointer of the ballgame made the contest a two-possession game at 66-60 with 1:55 left, but it was as close as TCU would get the rest of the way.
Texas benefited from a 32-8 discrepancy at the foul line. The Longhorns had 20 fourth quarter free throw attempts.
TCU was whistled for 25 fouls and pestered into 23 turnovers.
Roberson led TCU in scoring for the first time in her career, tallying 15 points on 7-8 shooting. The sophomore entered the locker room as the contest's leading scorer and rebounder. Roberson, who earned her second start of the season, netted eight points and five rebounds over 19 first half minutes.
Conner reached double figures for 17th time in as many games, finishing with 14 points.
Flores and Jovanovic chipped in eight bench points apiece.
Jaden Owens, 5-7, led all players on the boards with nine rebounds while dishing out a team-best five assists.
TCU forced a 13-13 gridlock at the end of one via a Conner-to-Roberson pick-and-roll and a pair of free throws by the former on its final two possessions.
The Horned Frogs held Texas to 3-14 shooting and no makes from distance over the opening 10 minutes.
Owens gave TCU its first advantage of the night off an iso drive on its first possession of the second quarter. Consecutive finishes at the rim by Agnes Emma-Nnopu (seven points, four rebounds) then staked the Horned Frogs to their largest lead of the contest at 19-16. Roberson bankrolled two straight slips into a 24-23 TCU edge with 3:44 left in the half. The one-point lead proved to be TCU's final of the ballgame.
