Sonny Dykes
Opening Statement:
"I want to give Colorado a ton of credit. They showed up more ready to play than we were. I think they were more excited to play. Seems like they had more determination down the stretch than we did, so that's a real credit to them. I thought their coaching staff did a really good job getting them ready to play.
"They did a really good job. Their good players played really good during the game. I thought the quarterback played outstanding, made all the throws, gave them chances on fifty-fifty balls and really threw the ball well. I thought he played as good as you can possibly play under the circumstances. I thought Travis Hunter was phenomenal in what he did today, I don't think I've ever seen that in a college football game, just to play as many snaps as he did. With the heat like it was, it didn't look like it affected him at all. He looked as fast at the end of the game as he did in the beginning, and you have to give those guys a ton of credit, like I said, that was really pretty phenomenal performance by him. And then he made plays, play after play after play after play, play after play defensively, play after play on offense, so give them a ton of credit.
"Like I said we didn't do a good job getting our team ready and we'll go back to the drawing board. I think our guys for whatever reason almost thought we were playing too good to play those guys today and turned out we're not. We have to do a better job of getting these guys ready. I told the guys afterwards if we play like that this year, we're not going to win many football games. So, we have to get a lot better. We'll go to work tomorrow. I thought our tackling was really, really bad defensively. You know we have a lot of guys back. Those guys can tackle. I don't know what happened today but they couldn't tackle today. We'll address that tomorrow and make sure that they're tackling tomorrow in practice and get that fixed."
TCU Quarterback Chandler Morris
On the two interceptions in the end zone:
"On that first interception, I was late getting back. I have to recognize it quicker. That's on me. On the second one he made a great play. We had the look that we wanted, but he made a great play. I need to protect the football more.
On TCU being able to find a rhythm during the game:
"I think at times we were able to get into a rhythm for sure. Obviously, we have to do a better job on pre-snap penalties and again, protecting the football. But there were definitely times in the first half that we found a rhythm and after half time, but we have got to keep rolling."
On Coach Dykes stating that Colorado was more excited to play than TCU was:
"I agree. Colorado came out on top and usually the more excited football team wins the game and that was the case today, as well. We have got to go back and reassess things and get ready to work tomorrow."
On Colorado's defense showing schemes that TCU did not recognize:
"Not really, they were certainly mixing it up a little bit and bringing more pressure than we thought that they would."
On moving forward:
"We have got a lot [of the season] left. Obviously, we wanted this first one but we have 11 more opportunities to go out and prove ourselves. This moment is not going to define us as a football team. We are going to make sure that this refines us as a football team but most importantly we have to learn from our mistakes as a team. That wasn't TCU football; that was not our standard. And we have to go harder than ever. Especially me, I promised my team and my coaches that I am going to go harder than ever."
Colorado head coach Deion Sanders
On the game:
"All the guys contributed, Dylan (Edwards as well as (Anthony) Hankerson. Both played their butts off. We've got to fix some things on defense, especially special teams. But here's the thing, we gave up three or four turnovers. We gave up the kickoff. We had a fumble and a couple of things happened in the first half. But hats off to the opposing team, they are coach greatly. I know their head coach. I love him. I like what he did. Turning the program around at SMU as well as here last year. Good man. I had a moment with him in the middle of the field. One of the guys was injured. Just let him know how much I appreciate him how much I respect him for what he's accomplished. I really look up to him. He's a good man. His team was well coached today."
On the hard work leading to a win:
"Well, I'm not gonna say it was fun. It was satisfying in the end, you got to understand time. Seconds tick off the clock. I'm ready for next. I'm thinking we have to fix this or fix that because we've got to be much more dominant next week. All phases, not just one phase, but offensively, defensively, special teams. Offensively, we did. Defensively, we've got to fix some things. Special teams were horrendous. We got a kick blocked, as well as darn near gave up a touchdown. That was horrendous."
On quarterback Shedeur Sanders:
"Shilo (Sanders) came in when I was in the training room getting my foot worked on. He (Shedeur) and Shilo just came and of course Junior was filming it. So we had that moment. They were really happy, elated. Shilo came in there being apologetic. He noted a couple times because he missed him on his butt right now. But he said he had 10 tackles and I checked the stats and I think he did. But I was just dad moments ago and I'm proud of both of them. I really am."
On cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter:
"Travis is him. Like the young folks say. Travis is it. I really think you know we promote all my kids. We have a couple of guys that should be front runners for the Heisman right now. That's how I feel. And I want to promote the kids at all costs. We got a couple of them that will be there."
Colorado quarterback, Shedeur Sanders
On today:
"Today was just like practice. A lot of people didn't believe in us, including some of y'all here asking questions, which is crazy because you have to understand our coach, Coach Prime, my dad. Everywhere he went, he was a winner. Every game, every opportunity he took advantage of. So, a lot of y'all don't have the same knowledge and experience he has. How can y'all question what he's saying? He has a gold jacket. He's played in Super Bowls. Now y'all understand what he's saying is real. Yes, I came from an FCS SWAC school, but to me it's no different. Those hits still feel the same."
On getting to share this moment with his dad:
"It just feels like another day in the office. We did it last year. If you go look up the numbers from last year they were pretty high versus FAMU. You should've known this for game one. I have too much time to prepare, too much time to focus. Our offensive coordinator (Sean) Lewis had too much time."
Colorado cornerback/wide receiver, Travis Hunter
On being slighted heading into today's game:
"We kept receipts. Nobody believed in us. The only people that believed in us were the people in the facility. Everybody that broadcasted were saying we're not going to be good this year. Y'all doubt my coach. That's why I wore him on my shirt right now because we believe."
On playing on both ends of the ball:
"It's fun - it's hard on your body, but that's what you have treatment for. I liked going out there. I didn't get a touchdown today but I got an interception. Whatever I can do to help the team is what I want to do. I helped the defense get a takeaway and I helped the offense get down the field."
Colorado running back, Dylan Edwards
On his college debut performance
"I knew I could make plays out there and we prepared well, so when I got the ball I was doing my thing: reading my blocks and trying to get to the end zone."
On passing 100 receiving yards in his first game:
"You don't come into a game thinking you'll have a certain stat line, but I knew if I prepare myself well and we executed the right plays that I could score today."
On the offense:
"It feels great knowing everyone can do their job and make plays. You got other guys making plays, so it's just good to have all weapons on the field at all times."
