
Gibson Tallies First Career Double-Double in Loss to No. 7 Minnesota

Gibson and Parra each landed 13 kills in the contest
MINNEAPOLIS – TCU fell 3-1 to No. 7 Minnesota in the season opener on Friday night in Maturi Pavilion. Jalyn Gibson tallied her first career double-double (13 kills, 11 digs) in the loss and Melanie Parra landed 13 kills as well.
The Rundown
The Frogs got off to a hot start in set one with Melanie Parra making her presence felt on the court. She scored her first career TCU kill to begin the match and ended the first set with seven kills and three service aces.
Parra accounted for five straight TCU points in the first set to help the Horned Frogs maintain the lead. Three kills and two of her team-leading four aces propelled TCU to a 17-14 advantage.
Up 20-19, the Horned Frogs executed a 5-1 scoring run to finish the set, highlighted by key kills from Parra and Jalyn Gibson.
Despite falling in the second and third sets, TCU bounced back in the fourth and took a commanding lead early on. Parra's 10th kill of the night gave TCU the 1-0 lead to open the set, and Gibson's 10th kill immediately followed.
TCU led by as many as four in the fourth set and continued to keep the score close. Down 13-12, Brianna Green recorded back-to-back blocks to give TCU the edge once again. The Frogs continued to build momentum and took an 18-15 lead as Parra landed her 13th and final kill of the night, but the Golden Gophers scored five straight points and never looked back as they won the match.
Parra and Gibson each tallied a team-leading 13 kills. Gibson also notched her first career double-double as she added 11 digs.
