Williams, Coleman and Banks earn spots for their athleticism
FORT WORTH -- TCU wide receiver Savion Williams, offensive lineman Brandon Coleman and linebacker Shad Banks Jr. have been selected to Bruce Feldman's College Football Freaks list for the 2023 season.
Feldman is the National College Football Insider for The Athletic and a FOX College Football reporter. He annually produces the list to spotlight players with freakish athleticism.
TCU's three selections tie for third-most in the nation.
Williams is at No. 56 on the Freaks List. He started all 15 games last season and is TCU's top returning receiver with 29 catches a year ago. The 6-foot-5, 225-pound former high school quarterback has hit 10-6 on the broad jump and posted a 40-inch vertical to go with a 4.5 in the 40. Williams can also throw a football the farthest of any Horned Frog on the roster.
"He threw it about 20 yards further — it was like every bit of 80 yards," TCU quarterback Chandler Morris said. "And with no warm-up. That's just straight God-given, dude."
Appearing at No. 61, Coleman grew up in Berlin, Germany, and moved to the United States when he was 16. He started all 15 games at left tackle last season, placing third on the TCU offense with 1,036 snaps played. Pro Football Focus has Coleman as the third-highest graded returning offensive lineman in the Big 12. At 6-foot-6 and 320 pounds, Coleman has a 35-inch vertical jump and regularly runs 18 MPH. He squats 600 pounds, benches 400 and power-cleans 375.
Banks is No. 77 on the list. The 6-foot-1, 250-pound junior was the only linebacker in the nation to also return kickoffs last season. Banks played in 15 games with two starts, placing 11th on the Horned Frogs with 39 tackles. He also averaged a team-best 27.0 yards on kickoff returns. Banks consistently runs 21 MPH and has been clocked at 4.4 in the 40. He also vertical-jumped 38 inches and was a two-time Junior Olympic national triple jump champion.
