
TCU Routs Kansas State In Championship Opener

The Rundown
A lead-off walk drawn by Elijah Nunez followed by a Karson Bowen base hit set the stage for Brayden Taylor's three run home run to put the Horned Frogs in front. With one on and two out, Kurtis Byrne lined a two-run home run to left center for a 5-0 lead.
Three more runs crossed the plate for the Frogs in the second. Bowen doubled home Nunez and scored on a Taylor double for a 7-0 lead. Three batters later, Taylor scored on an Anthony Silva ground out for an 8-0 lead after two.
TCU struck for two more runs in the third. Nunez doubled home Austin Davis and scored on a Bowen sacrifice fly to push the lead to 10.
Kansas State picked up two runs in the fourth without the benefit of a hit as it drew five walks and was hit once to make it a 10-2 ballgame.
The Frogs got the runs back and then some to regain the 10-run cushion. TCU scored six times with two outs on six hits and one costly Wildcat error. Byrne's second hit of the game drove in the first run of the frame. After the error kept the inning alive, Davis drove in Byrne. Nunez collected a two-run single and Taylor a two-run double to make it a 16-2 ballgame.
Cam Brown started for the Frogs and allowed two runs on one hit in 3 1/3 innings. He walked six and struck out four. Jax Traeger (2-0) allowed a run on a hit. He walked four and struck out four. Chase Hoover pitched a scoreless seventh.
