
TCU Comes Up Short In Series Opener

The Rundown
After falling behind 2-0 on a pair of two out home runs from Oklahoma State in the first, TCU responded with two of its own. Tre Richardson scored on a two out wild pitch to pull the Frogs within one. Three batters later, Austin Davis drove in Cole Fontenelle to tie the game.
The Cowboys homered twice in the second to take a 5-2 lead. Fontenelle's solo home run in the third was answered by a two run home run in the fourth as Oklahoma State opened up a 7-3 lead.
TCU inched closer in the sixth, picking up a run on a hit and three walks. Luke Boyers worked the bases-loaded walk to make it a 7-4 ballgame.
Two more runs came home in the eighth as TCU pulled within one. With runners on the corners, Kurtis Byrne reached on an infield single to drive in the first run of the frame. Brayden Taylor's two out base hit made it a 7-6 game, but Cowboy reliever Isaac Stebens retired the final four he faced to help Oklahoma State escape.
Chase Hoover (1-1) took the loss after allowing the seven runs on seven hits. He walked four and struck out six. The bullpen trio of Ryan Vanderhei, River Ridings and Hunter Hodgers tossed five scoreless. They held the Cowboys to just two hits, walked five and struck out five.

TCU falls to 18-11 on the season and 5-5 in Big 12 play. The Horned Frogs will look to even the series Friday night. Kole Klecker will toe the rubber for the Frogs. First pitch is set for 8 p.m. The game will be televised nationally on ESPNU.
