
Eighth Inning Rally Leads TCU Past No. 19 DBU

FORT WORTH – A five-run eighth inning helped TCU to an 8-5 victory over No. 19 Dallas Baptist Tuesday night at Lupton Stadium. The win snapped DBU's 14 game winning streak. Karson Bowen hit the go-ahead grand slam in the eighth.
The Rundown
Brayden Taylor opened the eighth with a bunt single. Kurtis Byrne followed with a base hit and Austin Davis walked to load the bases. Karson Bowen connected on a 2-2 offering and sent it sailing over the right field fence to turn a 5-3 deficit into a 7-5 lead.
The Frogs added a big insurance run later in the inning. Tre Richardson's second sacrifice fly of the game pushed the TCU lead to three, 8-5.
Ryan Vanderhei (4-3) took over on the mound in the eighth. The Patriots threatened with two in scoring position, but Vanderhei struck out the next two batters to keep the deficit at two. He pitched around a lead-off walk in the ninth to pick up the victory.
DBU scored a single run in the second and third to open up a 2-0 lead. TCU tied the game in the third on Brayden Taylor's two-run homer to right.
The tie wouldn't hold as the Patriots first two hitters of the fourth reached. Two ground outs to the right side and the Patriots had a 4-2 lead. The teams traded runs in the fifth. DBU scored its run on a solo home run, while TCU's run came courtesy of Richardson's first sac fly of the game.
Chase Hoover started for the Frogs and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits in three innings of work. River Ridings and Cohen Feser each tossed a scoreless inning for the Frogs.
