Horned Frogs face No. 5 Texas A&M in quarterfinals on Apr. 13
WACO, Texas – TCU equestrian was all but assured a spot in the postseason following a successful 2022-2023 campaign, and the National Collegiate Equestrian Association made it official on Tuesday.
The Horned Frogs accepted a bid to the NCEA National Championships, held from Apr. 13-15 in Ocala, Florida. TCU was awarded the No. 4 seed in the eight-team field and will face No. 5 Texas A&M in the quarterfinals.
Tuesday's announcement marked TCU's 16th invitation to Nationals. Excluding the 2019-2020 season, which was halted prior to postseason play due to COVID-19, the Horned Frogs have qualified for the VENC or NCEA Championships every year since the program's inception in 2006.
TCU (12-3) enters the postseason on the heels of earning its fourth consecutive runner-up finish in the Big 12 Equestrian Championships. The Horned Frogs join No. 3 seed Oklahoma State and No. 8 seed Baylor as three-of-four conference programs to make the tournament. TCU boasts the highest season winning percentage (.800) of any Big 12 school. Eight of the Horned Frogs' 12 wins have been against ranked opponents.
This will be the third meeting in 2022-2023 between the Horned Frogs and Aggies. TCU won both regular season duals. The Horned Frogs rode to a 10-10 tie on Sept. 23 in College Station in the teams' regular season opener but were awarded the victory on cumulative points. TCU then left nothing to chance in the rematch, defeating the Aggies 15-4 with wins in all four events on Feb. 18 at Bear Creek Farms.
Should the TCU take out Texas A&M, the team will face either top overall seed SMU or Baylor in the semifinals.
TCU has now been awarded the No. 4 seed in back-to-back seasons. The Horned Frogs defeated Georgia 12-8 in the opening round of the 2022 edition of the tournament before falling to eventual national champion Oklahoma State in the semifinals.
The Horned Frogs have posted a 9-9 overall record as a team at the NCEA Championships over the last decade. TCU won the VENC Western National Championship in 2008.
