Schoolfield named Coach of the Year; Horned Frogs produce seven All-Conference honorees
STILLWATER, Okla. – TCU equestrian reaped the rewards of its most successful regular season in its 17-year program history with Saturday's announcement of All-Big 12 individual awards and All-Conference teams.
TCU director of equestrian Haley Schoolfield was selected as Big 12 Coach of the Year for the second time in as many seasons. She led the Horned Frogs to an 11-2 overall record and 4-2 mark in conference play in her 10th year at the helm.
Additionally, Isabella Baxter, Mattie Dukes and Jessica McAllister were honored as three of the conference's four Riders of the Year. Baxter was named Big 12 Rider of the Year in Fences. Baxter and McAllister repeated as Big 12 Riders of the Year in their respective disciplines.
The Horned Frogs produced seven All-Conference honorees, more than any other program. Four athletes were awarded All-Conference citations in two events.
Baxter, Dukes and Giorgia Medows were crowned All-Conference Riders in both Reining and Horsemanship. Ashleigh Scully joined the Western trio as a dual event All-Conference performer, as the junior garnered All-Conference Rider recognition in Fences and Flat. Sydney Berube (Fences) and Wynne Weatherly (Flat) rounded out TCU's list of All-Conference Riders.
Individual awards and All-Conference teams were voted on by head coaches.
Schoolfield's Coach of the Year honor is her third since assuming the program reins in 2012. The 2022-2023 season augmented her efforts to elevate TCU equestrian to a place of national prominence. TCU has enjoyed its best season in school history thus far. With Schoolfield leading the way, the Horned Frogs maintained a top-three NCEA dual discipline team ranking for the entirety of 2022-2023. TCU also finished undefeated at home for the first time ever, set a school record for regular season victories and took down seven ranked opponents during the regular season.
A three-time NCEA All-American, Baxter has continuously been recognized as one of the sport's elite performers in Fences. She holds an NRS score of 100. Baxter anchored TCU's Fences squad all season, riding to an 11-2 overall record and team-leading season total average score of 81.5. A native of Wright City, Missouri, Baxter went 7-2 vs. ranked opponents and closed the regular season by emerging victorious in eight of her last nine rides. The late-season surge improved her career Fences record to 47-22-1. Her performances helped TCU triumph in Fences in 11 of 13 outings and post a 6-0 home mark in the event.
Dukes and McAllister's efforts helped lead TCU to an 11-1-1 combined regular season record in Western.
No athlete across the conference ranks was as consistent as Dukes in Reining. The junior went 11-1-1 overall and 7-1-1 vs. NCEA top-10 teams in the event. She boasts both the most individual victories and the highest winning percentage (.885) in an event of an athlete on the Horned Frogs roster across both disciplines. Dukes, a two-time All-American, did not suffer a defeat over TCU's final 10 regular season outings.
Dukes produced a 10-3 mark in Horsemanship to elevate her overall record to 21-4-1. Her 21 combined victories were the second most of any Horned Frogs. She found herself in the winner's circle in nine straight meets from Oct. 13-Feb. 18. Dukes, originally from Weatherford, Texas, Triumphed in Horsemanship in six of TCU's seven ranked wins.
There may not have been as dominant an athlete nationwide in Horsemanship as McAllister. She led TCU with a 10-1-2 record and five sets of most outstanding performer (MOP credentials). Her lone loss came by the slimmest of margins – a 76-75 at No. 3 Texas A&M in the team's regular season opener on Sept. 23. Following a win and pair of ties, the two-time All-American closed the regular season by rattling off nine straight victories. She owns TCU's highest season total score average overall (76) and in Big 12 play (76.3). McAllister guided the Horned Frogs to a 10-1-1 regular season record in Horsemanship.
McAllister went 9-2-2 in Reining. The Southbury, Connecticut, native began 2022 with four consecutive ranked wins to propel the Horned Frogs to a 4-0 start to the season. She received a score of 70-or-better in eight of her 13 rides and went 6-2-1 in the event vs. ranked opponents.
Meadows was every bit as good as her All-Big 12 western counterparts. She owns a 19-6-1 overall record (10-2-1 Horsemanship / 9-4 Reining) in 2022-2023. Medows, from Cuba, Missouri, finished the regular season tied with McAllister for the third-most victories of any Horned Frog.
In Horsemanship, Medows matched McAllister for the most Horsemanship wins and longest winning streak (nine) on the squad. She was victorious over TCU's last nine regular season outings, helping the Horned Frogs post an 8-1 record in that span. Eight of her 10 wins came at the expense of ranked opponents.
Medows was twice named Big 12 Rider of the Month in Reining. She received a score of 70-or-better in eight of her 13 rides.
If Baxter was the heart and soul of TCU's jumping seat contingent, Scully proved herself the group's most dependable. Entering the Big 12 Championships, she commanded a 21-4 overall record (11-2 Fences, 10-2 Flat). Her 21 combined victories were the most of any Horned Frog.
Scully eclipsed the 80-point threshold in Fences in eight of her 13 rides. She notched individual victories in the discipline in all 11 of TCU's Fences triumphs and went 9-0 against ranked opponents.
Her standout junior campaign extended into Flat. Scully - Averaged a score of 76 vs. Big 12 opposition and notched a team-leading five wins in the event during conference play. After starting the season 2-2, she went on to win eight of her final nine rides. Of the eight wins, all but one came against teams currently featured in the NCEA Discipline Team Rankings.
Berube's All-Conference Rider accolade is the second in her three-year tenure at TCU, but first in Fences. The Bedford, New Hampshire native was an All-Big 12 first team honoree as a sophomore in 2021-2022. This season, Berube tallied a career-high 10 victories, including seven straight between Oct. 28-Feb. 25 to matching Baxter for the longest Fences winning streak of any Horned Frog. She was awarded a score of 80-or-better in each of her last eight outings and 10 times total in 2022-2023. Berube either won or forced a tie in 10 of TCU's 11 wins.
Weatherly, a graduate student from North Carolina, closed the books on her TCU career by receiving her first-ever postseason All-Big 12 honor. She concluded the regular season with a team-leading season total average score of 79.3. Entering postseason play, Weatherly led TCU with three MOP's in Flat, all of which came during the spring portion of the season. She went 5-1 in the event over TCU's final six meets.
