Sydney Berube, Mattie Dukes and Jessica McAllister claimed the all-conference honor
IRVING, Texas – Three members of the TCU equestrian team rode through February undefeated, and their efforts were acknowledged in full by the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday.
Sydney Berube, Mattie Dukes and Jessica McAllister were each honored as Big 12 Riders of the Month for February, as voted on by conference head coaches.
The trio each posted 4-0 individual records in their respective events, helping the third-ranked Horned Frogs (10-2) collect a trio of victories over opponents currently featured in the top-10 of the NCEA team rankings.
Berube received the recognition in Fences, Dukes was honored in Reining and McAllister garnered the accolade in Horsemanship.
A junior from Bedford, New Hampshire, Berube was as consistent as any Jumping Seat rider across the conference ranks. She defeated her four opponents by an average margin of victory of 3.25 points.
Berube picked as good a morning as any to enjoy the best ride of her career in purple and white. She rode to a career-high score of 87 in TCU's 15-4 takedown of No. 3 Texas A&M on Feb. 18. Berube was honored as the event's Most Outstanding Performer and helped fuel a 5-0 Horned Frog sweep in Fences. Her first pair of Fences victories helped TCU enjoy respective 4-1 and 3-2 triumphs in the event over No. 9 Fresno State and UC Davis from Feb. 10-11.
Wednesday's announcement marked the first weekly all-conference award for Berube in her TCU tenure. She has been victorious in Fences in seven straight outings and is tied with Ashleigh Scully for the team-lead in individual wins (10).
Dukes helped TCU edge the opposition in Reining in all four meets. The Weatherford, Texas native was the top scorer in TCU's 15-4 ranked road victory over Fresno State on Feb. 11, as she defeated her opponent 71-70.5.
A 2022 NCEA All-American in Horsemanship, Dukes' versatility in Western has made her as dominant a competitor as any athlete nationwide. This season, she is 6-1-1 in Reining vs. ranked opponents. Dukes' 68.5-63 win at No. 7 Oklahoma State on Saturday signified her 10th consecutive win in Reining – a streak that dates to October. The senior now sports a team-leading 10-1-1 record in Reining in 2022-2023 and is 25-14-2 in the discipline for her career.
McAllister's performance in February is par the course in her decorated Horsemanship career. She is a two-time Big 12 Conference Rider of the Year in Horsemanship (2021, 2022) and looked the part throughout the month.
She collected MOP credentials in TCU's tilts vs. the Aggies and Cowgirls to swell her season tally to a team-best five. McAllister, from Southbury, Connecticut, was the top scorer against Fresno State, Texas A&M and Oklahoma State. The trip north to Stillwater saw McAllister notch a career-best Horsemanship score of 80.
McAllister kicked off the month by steering TCU to its then-fifth consecutive 5-0 Horsemanship shutout in its victory over Fresno State. Her efforts also helped the Horned Frogs produce Horsemanship wins against UC Davis and Texas A&M, improving the team's cumulative season record in the discipline to 10-2.
With one regular season meet remaining, McAllister's record in Horsemanship stands at 9-1 in 2022-2023 and 31-8-3 for her career.
The award adds to her laundry list of Horsemanship honors. McAllister is a two-time NCEA All-American in the discipline, has now been crowned the conference's top monthly performer three times and has twice been honored as NCEA Horsemanship Rider of the Month.
Fans can catch the trio in action one final time in the Lone Star State on Saturday, when TCU hosts No. 8 Baylor in its regular season finale. The meet is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. at Bear Creek Farms. The Horned Frogs will honor Dukes and six other graduating seniors following the meet's conclusion.
