
TCU Kennels the Bulldogs, Earns 15-4 Road Victory Over Fresno State

Horned Frogs are one win away from clinching the Big 12 regular season title
FRESNO, California – No. 2 TCU took a major step toward earning its first-ever Big 12 regular season championship on Friday.
The Horned Frogs faced conference rival Fresno State in the San Joaquin Valley in the first leg of a back-to-back in the Golden State.
And suffice it to say, TCU's winning ways traveled west.
The Horned Frogs kenneled the ninth-ranked Bulldogs 15-4 to notch their third consecutive Big 12 win and a season sweep of Fresno State.
TCU (8-1, 3-1 Big 12) now sits in position to claim the conference regular season crown with a win in its next Big 12 outing, a visit to Oklahoma State on Feb. 25.
Friday's triumph signified the Horned Frogs' fifth win over a ranked foe in 2022-2023, three of which have transpired away from the friendly confines of Bear Creek Farms.
TCU was victorious in all four events. The Horned Frogs extended their undefeated Western run, finishing with an 8-1 cumulative advantage in points. The team was every bit as dominant in Jumping Seat. TCU claimed a 3-2 win in Fences before closing the show emphatically with a 4-1 Flat shutout.
In total, TCU outscored the Bulldogs 1,490-1,329.5.
The Horned Frogs were awarded three sets of Most Outstanding Performer (MOP) accolades. Mattie Dukes received the recognition in Horsemanship, her first of the season and sixth all-time. Reining saw Maddy Buchanan obtain her first set of MOP credentials in the 2022-2023 campaign. Two-time Fences All-American Isabella Baxter took hone the honor in the event for the 14th time in her career.
Horsemanship
The action commenced with Horsemanship, an event in which the Horned Frogs may boast the nation's most dominant quintet.
TCU rode to its fifth consecutive 5-0 shutout – three of which have come at the expense of ranked opponents – and second straight skunk vs. the Fresno State. Overall, the Horned Frogs are 8-1 in Horsemanship in 2022-2023.
The Horned Frogs outscored the Bulldogs 368-354 behind a star-studded lineup featuring All-Americans Dukes, Shea Graham, Giorgia Meadows and Jessica McAllister and junior Payton Boutelle.
Dukes and McAllister were the high scorers in the event, as they each were awarded 76 points. Their rides offset the Bulldogs' top-two performances. Dukes downed Kendra Lee, the Bulldogs' leading scorer with 74.5 points. McAllister's ride bested a 73.5-point effort from Alex Krebs.
Meadows kept pace, as she tallied 75.5 points on her way to a three-point triumph over Emily Maul.
Graham earned a 71-67.5 win against Ella Storch while Boutelle notched a 69.5-66 takedown of Hannah Bujis.
Dukes and Graham swelled their season records to 8-1. Meadows earned her seventh win in nine tries this season. McAllister's Horsemanship mark stands at 6-1 this season. Boutelle's win was her fifth straight.
Fences
TCU then picked up three Fences victories to the Bulldogs' two to take an 8-2 lead into the intermission.
Baxter, Sydney Berube and Ashleigh Scully all eclipsed the 80-point threshold to lead TCU to its trio of victories.
Each ride was vital, as Fresno State edged the Horned Frogs in cumulative points 394-390.
Baxter posted an 83-76 win at the expense of Elle Martin. She is now 43-21 in the event for her career.
Berube matched her score from TCU's most recent victory – a 16-3 walloping of South Dakota State on Jan. 26 – via an 82-point ride to edge Taylor Holstead by two points.
Scully has been as impressive as any athlete for the Horned Frogs or nationwide this season. She earned her 14th of a team-leading 15 individual victories with her 81-79 defeat of Sara Tuck. Scully's overall record now stands at 15-2.
Reining
TCU's 2022-2023 mastery in Western continued in Reining, as the Horned Frogs rode to a 3-1 advantage to clinch the meet.
Dukes swelled the Horned Frogs' lead to 9-2, picking up her second win of the outing on the strength of a 71-70.5 win over Julianne Kelly.
Shortly thereafter, Buchanan put the Horned Frogs in double figures and within a point of victory. She was awarded 71 points and secured her first win of the season.
Graham garnered the match-clincher, outlasting Sarah Semrau 61.5-58.
McAllister was TCU's top scorer at 71.5 points but her ride ended in a draw.
Flat
The Horned Frogs' dominant showing continued and concluded in Flat. Four of TCU's five competitors received scores of 80-or-better.
Wynne Weatherly obtained a team-leading score of 83 on her way to a four-point victory over Bertozzi.
Laurel Smith closed the meet with a comfortable 82-75 win against Jillian Spencer.
Sydnie Young, a native of nearby Loomis, California, cruised past Elle Martin 80-67.
Scully's 15th victory arrived in the form of a 68-point ride. Her opponent did not receive a score.
