
No. 2 TCU Dazzles at Stock Show, Downs South Dakota State 16-3

Horned Frogs move to 7-1 in 2022-2023 with the victory
FORT WORTH – No. 2 TCU sparkled under the bright lights of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo on Thursday, downing South Dakota State 16-3 to begin the spring portion of its 2022-2023 season.
The Horned Frogs (7-1, 2-1 Big 12) finished with a 1,470.5-1,351 advantage in cumulative points and won all four events. The program's undefeated mark in Western swelled to 8-0, as TCU claimed nine of a possible 10 points against SDSU (1-4). TCU nabbed seven points in Jumping Seat to the Jackrabbits' two. The Horned Frogs notched sweeps in Flat and Horsemanship.
TCU extended its season-long winning streak to four and maintained sole possession of the Big 12 Conference standings with the result.
The Horned Frogs have now won five straight meets at the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. TCU is 9-2 all-time inside John Justin Arena.
The win boosted TCU's all-time mark vs. SDSU to 10-4.
Flat
TCU pitched a shutout in flat to begin the meet. The Horned Frogs nabbed four of a possible five points, outscoring the Jackrabbits 361-319.
Wynne Weatherly earned her first MOP accolade of the 2022-2023 campaign and sixth in her four-year TCU career. Weatherly, a graduate student from Charlotte, North Carolina, notched the highest score of any rider, as she was awarded 83 points on Lina. She bested SDSU's Cali Karbler's ride of 76 with the performance.
Laurel Smith was the other Horned Frog to exceed 80 points. Smith and Julia Werkhoven of SDSU competed to an 82-82 draw.
TCU's trio of Sydnie Young, Ashleigh Scully and Victoria Zahorik each rode to comfortable victories to polish off the sweep.
Young garnered a 70-59 win over the Jackrabbits' Hannah Steele on Mac. Scully ran her 2022-2023 record in flat to 7-1 via a 69-56 takedown of Rachel Darby on Gipsy. Zahorik closed the show with the third win of her collegiate career, as she enjoyed a 57-46 triumph against Kate Koehl on Pancake.
The Horned Frogs have posted cumulative victories in Flat in six-of-eight meets thus far.
Reining
The action then shifted to reining, where TCU delivered another quartet of victories.
Mattie Dukes was the first Horned Frog to pad the meet lead. The senior edged SDSU's Lydia Loken 69.5-69 on Snoop Dog. Dukes, one of seven NCEA All-Americans on the TCU's 2022-2023 roster, now sports a 7-1 Western record this season.
Shea Graham widened TCU's lead to 6-1. She was the high-scorer in the event, as the Cave Creek, Arizona native scored 71 points on Roxie to cruise past the Jackrabbits' Isabelle Riggs. Graham was crowned MOP at the conclusion of the event. The honor marked her sixth career set of MOP credentials in Reining.
Giorgia Meadows, a two-time Big 12 Conference Rider of the Month this season, was not far behind Graham. Meadows staked the Horned Frogs to their third-of-four wins on the strength of a 70-point ride Alfie. She posted a three-point win over SDSU's Grace Blake.
The fourth-and-final TCU win came from fellow All-American Jessica McAllister, who defeated Adisyn Kuxhaus of SDSU 66.5-65.5 on Britney.
SDSU's Cassandra Townsend edged Lannie-Jo Lisac 68-67.5 to give the Jackrabbits their sole victory.
The Horned Frogs tallied 344.5 cumulative points to the Jackrabbits' 337.
Horsemanship
TCU extended its winning streak in Horsemanship to five, clinching the meet along the way.
The Horned Frogs rode to a 5-0 sweep, outscoring SDSU 387-365.
The Horned Frogs' 387 points were their most in a meet in Horsemanship this season. All five athletes were awarded 75-or-more points.
McAllister earned her second victory of the day and MOP accolades, as she rode Brady to a meet and career-high score of 79.5. She posted a 7.5-point margin of victory over Blake.
Dukes, Graham and Meadows also entered the winner's circle for a second time.
Dukes' performance was every bit as impressive as McAllister's. SDSU's Callyn Fox received a score of 78 – the highest of any Jackrabbit in Western – on Flash midway through the event. Dukes answered the bell on TCU's final ride. She garnered 79 points to complete the shutout and notch her highest score of the year.
Graham breezed by SDSU's Shelby Cochran 77-70 on Jack while Meadows bested Annika Hanson 76.5-71.5 on Gomer.
Payton Boutelle rounded out TCU's dominant showing with a 75-point effort on Jake to best Paige Wellendorf of SDSU's score of 73.5.
Fences
The Horned Frogs polished off the wire-to-wire win with a trio of standout efforts.
Ella Bostwick, Isabella Baxter and Sydney Berube each eclipsed 80 points to lead the Horned Frogs to a trio of points.
Bostwick claimed her first collegiate MOP crown behind a match-high score of 83 on Java, downing Darby's ride of 79 in the process.
Baxter, a two-time All-American in Fences, ran her career record in the event to 42-21 behind an 82-65 victory over Karbler on Phia.
Berube hit the 80-point threshold for the second time in as many meets, blowing by Ella Domenicone 81-30 on Electric.
SDSU's lone wins came from Samantha Hunsecker and Sophia Kregoski. Hunsecker was received 81 points and Kregoski was awarded a score of 75.
