Frogs open season with big win in College Station
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – TCU equestrian is riding back from east Texas in possession of the biggest win of the opening week of the 2022-23 season.
The third-ranked Horned Frogs competed to a 10-10 draw against No. 2 Texas A&M in its regular-season opener on Friday. TCU, though, clinched the win via a cumulative point advantage of 1,630.5 – 1,622.75.
THE RUNDOWN
Texas A&M got ahead early in the meet, with the total score after Flat being 4-1. Ashleigh Scully earned the highest score of the Horned Frogs with an 86 on Mr. P. Sydnie Young was close behind, scoring an 83 on Queen.
In Reining, the TCU unit took home the win, 3-2. Shea Graham was the highest-scoring Horned Frog, earning a 76.5 on Dreamer. Giorgia Medows was close behind her, with a 76 on Boss.
After the break, things started to look up for the Horned Frogs. TCU earned a 3-2 win in Fences. Ashleigh Scully snagged the event-winning point, scoring an 84 on Tempi. Sydney Berube also delivered on Chapman, earning a score of 82.
Horsemanship was also tight, but the Horned Frogs came out on top, 3-2. Mattie Dukes received the highest score of the event, earning a 77.5 on Sally. Giorgia Medows came in close behind with a 77 on Tucker.
TCU's prowess in Western proved decisive, as the Horned Frogs amassed 738.5 points to the Aggies' 650.5.
Giorgia Medows swept two MOPs: one in Horsemanship and the other in Reining. Ashleigh Scully secured the MOP in Flat.
NEXT TIME
The Frogs will be back in action Thursday, Oct. 6 when they challenge Delaware State on the road in Dover, Del.
