Rodgers homers for TCU
ARLINGTON, Texas – TCU's attempt to climb out of an early deficit came up just short in a 5-3 loss to Texas in the Phillips 66 Big 12 Championship Thursday afternoon at Globe Life Field. Gray Rodgers homered as part of a two hit game.
The Rundown
Texas jumped out 3-0 lead on a Murphy Stehly home run in the first inning. From there, Marcelo Perez was outstanding in keeping the game within reach. He tossed a career-high seven innings, allowing the three runs on five hits and struck out six.
TCU inched its way back into the game, picking up a run in the fourth and sixth to make it a 3-2 ballgame. Tommy Sacco walked to lead off the fourth and scored on a two out error. In the sixth, Elijah Nunez led off the inning with a double and two batters later, scored on a Brayden Taylor sacrifice fly.
Texas restored its three run lead with two in the eighth. A one out balk with runners on the corners made it 4-2 and a two-out single extend the lead to 5-2.
A Gray Rodgers two out home run in the ninth accounted for the final score.
