
Cal Rallies Back; Tops TCU 7-6

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Rallies galore highlighted the entirety of the contest, but it was Cal that came away with the 7-6 walk-off victory over TCU Saturday afternoon in the MLB4 Tournament.
The Rundown
TCU raced out to a 4-0 lead after two innings of play. A two out rally in the first saw Tommy Sacco deliver a bases-loaded two run single put the Frogs in front. Back-to-back RBI singles from Brayden Taylor and David Bishop made it a 4-0 game in the second.
Cal started its comeback with a solo run in the fourth and the sixth. The Bears looked poised to get even closer in the seventh as the first two hitters were in scoring position with nobody out, but two strikeouts and a fly left the bases loaded.
TCU couldn't wiggle off the hook in the eighth as Cal sent 10 men to the plate and scored four times to take its first lead of the game 6-4.
Similar to Game 1, TCU did not go quietly, rallying with two runs in the ninth to tie the game at six. Elijah Nunez started the rally with a one out walk. Luke Boyers followed with a hit to put the tying runs aboard. Taylor made it a one run ballgame with a base hit. Two batters later, Gray Rodgers worked a bases loaded walk to tie the game.
Cal got a one out triple in the bottom of the ninth and a wild pitch allowed the game-winning run to score.
Riley Cornelio started and tossed a career-high 5 1/3 innings. He allowed two runs on three hits, walked two and struck out five in the no-decision.
