Johnston has career day with 14 receptions and 206 yards
A defensive struggle in the opening 30 minutes, with TCU leading 10-3 at the break, became a shootout in the second half with each team scoring 28 points.
Johnston had career-best totals of 14 receptions for 206 yards. It was the most catches by a Horned Frog since Josh Doctson had 18 receptions in a 55-52 win at Texas Tech in 2015. Duggan completed 23-of-33 passes for 308 yards and three touchdowns while rushing for 55 yards on nine carries.
With the game tied at 31-31, Duggan found Johnston in the end zone from 24 yards out to give the Horned Frogs a 38-31 lead. It capped a 6-play, 68-yard drive after the Jayhawks had tied the game.
Kansas responded by reaching the TCU 34, but the Horned Frogs' defense stiffened on fourth down and forced an incomplete pass to seal TCU's first 5-0 start since 2017 when current Head Coach Sonny Dykes was on staff as an offensive analyst.
Following Kansas evening the game at 24-24, TCU regained a 31-24 lead with 23 seconds left in the third quarter on a spectacular 25-yard touchdown catch in the end zone by Taye Barber.
After Kansas rallied from a 10-0 deficit to take a 17-10 lead, TCU responded with a 4-play, 61-yard drive to even the game when Duggan hit Derius Davis on a short screen and Davis streaked 51 yards down the sideline into the end zone.
On the Jayhawks' ensuing series, Jamoi Hodge's first career interception set up the Horned Frogs at the KU 27. Five plays later, Duggan scored on a 3-yard keeper to give TCU the lead back at 24-17 with 3:59 left in the third quarter.
