First No. 1 ranking in program history
FORT WORTH – TCU is on top of the collegiate equestrian world.
The Horned Frogs earned the No. 1 overall ranking in the National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) Dual Discipline Team Rankings for the first time in program history on Tuesday.
"We are very excited about the high level the team is working and competing at this semester," said director of equestrian Haley Schoolfield. "It's an honor to be selected for the No. 1 slot this week. That being said, we know it is a long year with many tough competitions ahead. We will continue to work on improving our strength and sharpness as we look ahead."
TCU was tabbed No. 3 in the NCEA Dual Discipline preseason poll – it's highest-ever preseason ranking – on Sept. 20. The Horned Frogs then staked their claim to the top spot in the rankings with their win over then-No. 2 Texas A&M on Sept. 23. The teams competed to a 10-10 draw but TCU clinched the victory on cumulative points, 1,630.5 – 1,622.75.
The Horned Frogs first defense of their No. 1 ranking arrives in less than 48 hours on the backdrop of the Atlantic Ocean. TCU is set to face Delaware State at 8 a.m. CT on Thursday in Dover in a nonconference meet.
TCU is one-of-four Big 12 schools featured in the rankings. Oklahoma State, whom the Horned Frogs draw in their regular season home-opener on Oct. 28, is slotted No. 4. Baylor and Fresno State are ranked eighth and ninth, respectively.
