TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Behind under-par rounds by Filippo Celli and Jacob Skov Olesen, TCU's men's golf team ended the first round tied for eighth place as the NCAA Regional at Seminole Legacy Golf Club began Monday.
Tied with Indiana, TCU (+2) is just five strokes out of fifth place and seven strokes out of third as the leaderboard is packed tight after host Florida State (-17) and Georgia Tech (-11).
Celli went low early as he birdied five of his first seven holes. The freshman had a front nine score of 5-under 31. His three bogies on the back nine moved his score to 2-under 70. Among those tied for 12th with Celli was Olesen, who made four birdies. Olesen went under par for the 10th time in his last 12 rounds.
Mateo Fernández de Oliveira and Aymeric Laussot tied for 51st place after shooting 3-over 75. Fernández de Oliveira made three-straight birdies to start the back nine and a fourth after that for and even nine-hole score.
Gustav Frimodt chipped in for eagle on the par 5 No. 14 hole. He was 5-over 77 and tied for 65th.
TCU will be paired with Davidson and Indiana and tee off on hole No. 1 at 8:25 a.m. CT for round two on Tuesday.
