CHANDLER, Ariz. – TCU had a season-best opening round Monday at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic, but was unable to complete its second round at Whirlwind Golf Club in Chandler, Ariz.
The Horned Frogs shot 9-under 279, their best effort of the season. With 36 holes planned for the day, only half of the 23-team field made it through the second round before play was delayed due to darkness. Teams will complete their remaining holes on Tuesday morning starting at 9 a.m. CT.
Leading the TCU effort in the first round was Filippo Celli. The freshman made eight birdies and shot a career-best 7-under 65. It tied for the fourth lowest score vs. par in program history. Celli was the 11th different Horned Frog ever to go 7-under par and the first since David Ravetto shot 8-under 64 during the 2018-19 season.
Celli was tied with four others for first place after the first round.
Sophomores Jacob Skov Olesen and Mateo Fernández de Oliveira each shot 1-under 71 and were tied for 29th. Sophomore Aymeric Laussot shot even-par 72 and was tied for 40th.
When play was halted, TCU was tied for seventh place. All five of the Horned Frogs have either one or two holes to finish in the second round.
