
TCU Places Fourth at Big 12 Championship

Celli, Fernandez de Oliveira earn Big 12 All-Tournament Team honors
HUTCHINSON, Kan. – With the lowest round of any team on Wednesday, the TCU men's golf team finished in fourth place at the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
With little to no wind and only a few stray showers in the late morning, the conditions were prime for low scores. The Horned Frogs shot 10-under 270 to finish +20-over 1140 for the tournament. TCU has finished in the top four in each of the past two Big 12 Championships, following up on their 2019 runner-up finish.
No. 22-ranked Texas Tech was tied with TCU for fourth heading into the round, but shot 1-under 279 and finished in fifth. No. 4 Oklahoma State (+9) repeated at team champions by one stroke over No. 1 Oklahoma (+10).
Freshman Filippo Celli and sophomore Mateo Fernández de Oliveira earned spots on the All-Big 12 Tournament Team with top 10 finishes. Celli shot 1-over 71, including 2-under 33 on the back nine. The Italian shot 6-over 286 and finished tied for sixth place.
Fernández de Oliveira played a bogey-free front nine at 3-under 32 and finished 3-under 67 for the day, nine strokes better than his third round. The Argentine was 7-over 287 for the tournament and placed ninth.
Sophomore Aymeric Laussot had just one bogey and shot 3-under 67. His score of 10-over 290 tied for 16th place.
Sophomore Jacob Skov Olesen tied with two others for the second-lowest round of the day. He made six birdies to shoot 4-under 66 and moved up 14 places to tie for 19th at 11-over 291.
Sophomore Gustav Frimodt made it four Horned Frogs that shot at or even par with a score of even-par 70. He tied for 25th place at 13-over 293.
Texas' Cole Hammer won the championship with a score of 4-under 276. He was one of four players to shoot under par during the week.
TCU will discover where it will make its 31st consecutive NCAA Regional on May 5 at 1 p.m. on Golf Channel.
