Taylor homers and drives in five runs
FORT WORTH – No. 12 TCU struck for five runs in the first and never looked back in completing the series sweep of Baylor. The Horned Frogs handed the Bears a 10-1 loss on Sunday at Lupton Stadium. Brayden Taylor homered and drove in five runs in the game.
The Rundown
Elijah Nunez led off the first with a triple as the first seven batters reached for TCU. After a walk and a stolen base by Phillip Sikes, Brayden Taylor looped a two-run single into center for an early TCU lead. Two batters later, Gene Wood hit a three run home run down the right field line for a 5-0 advantage.
The Frogs added five more runs in the third. With the bases loaded and one out, Nunez singled to drive in a pair. Taylor lined a two out home run to straightaway center field for a three run shot and a 10-0 lead.
On the bump, Johnny Ray (2-1) twirled a gem through 5 1/3 innings. He retired the first 10 batters he faced and 12 of the first 13. A lead-off home run in the fifth was the only blemish on his line. He had to work around one out single and a two out walk in the fifth to keep the game out of reach for Baylor. Ray finished the afternoon surrendering three hits, walking two and striking out three.
River Ridings took over on the mound in the sixth with one out and a runner on second. He went a career-high 2 2/3 innings, allowing two hits and striking out two. Jacob Meador retired both batters he faced and Charles King came on in the ninth, striking out two of the three batters he saw.
