The Rundown
A combined 15 runs were scored in the middle innings, but it was six unanswered runs by the Bulldogs in the final four innings that secured the come-from-behind win for Gonzaga.
Â
After falling behind 2-0 in the second, TCU scored four unanswered runs to take a 4-2 lead. A bases-load sacrifice fly from Gene Wood in the second cut the deficit in half. Wood hit a two-run home run in the fourth to give the Frogs a 3-2 lead. A Luke Boyers ground out drove in Hunter Wolfe for a two run lead.
Â
Gonzaga picked up five runs in the fifth to regain the lead, 7-4. Again, the Frogs had an answer, scoring four times in the bottom of the frame. Tommy Sacco hit a sacrifice fly and Brayden Taylor came through with a two out, bases loaded double to put the Frogs back on top, 8-7.
Â
Andrew Orzel hit a bases-loaded double to flip the score in Gonzaga's favor, 10-8, in the sixth. All the damage was done after the first two outs of the inning were recorded.
Â
The Bulldogs tacked on three insurance runs in the final two innings to put the game out of reach.
Â
Charles King started and allowed three runs on four hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out two and walked one. Riley Cornelio (0-1) took the loss after surrendering three runs on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.Â
