Luc Fomba clinches TCU’s 15th straight win in three-set thriller

FORT WORTH – No. 3 TCU men's tennis (6-0) emerged victorious in yet another road match against a ranked opponent, taking down No. 20 Ole Miss, 4-3, Sunday afternoon at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss. The Horned Frogs utilized a third set to earn all three singles points, after winning doubles play, to notch their second road victory over a ranked opponent in eight days and their 15^th straight dual victory.

"That was a really good road win against a very good Mississippi team," head coach David Roditi said. "How can we, as coaches, not be proud of this win? Three three-setters, on the road, to win 4-3, it doesn't get much better than that. I'm very impressed with our resilience, especially the guys that lost their first sets and came back to win the match, like our captain, Alastair Gray, and Juan Martín. Martín won his doubles match today with Bertus [Kruger] to give us a huge doubles win as well. He had a great day. We talk about competing and being resilient and today it showed. To go on the road and beat Mississippi State and Mississippi in the same weekend, gives me a lot of excitement for this team. I'm proud of our guys and now we just have to get back home and heal before Indoor Nationals. Go Frogs!"

TCU has now won 15 consecutive dual matches dating back to last season. It has been 359 days since TCU's last defeat.

The Horned Frogs enter the ITA National Indoor Championships unbeaten (6-0) for the eighth time in program history and first time since 2015.

TCU remains unbeaten in the third set this dual season, posting a perfect, 6-0 record. Three of those seven wins came today, by a combined score of 18-4.

DOUBLES QUICK HITS

TCU used its depth to win the doubles point for the fourth time this season, with wins at No. 2 and No. 3.
Sander Jong and Tadeas Paroulek got the Frogs on the board first with a comfortable 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles.
It was their fourth dual victory together and fifth overall this season.
Bertus Kruger and Juan Martín clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win at No. 3.
It was their second win together through three completed matches this season and their first since Jan. 24.
This was the first match of the season that TCU won the doubles point without having a win at No. 1.
TCU is now 15-8 in doubles matches this season.
The Horned Frogs have won the doubles point in four of six matches this season.

SINGLES QUICK HITS

TCU clinched the dual victory with three-set wins at No. 2, No. 6 and No. 1.
Alastair Gray remains undefeated in singles play this season – 6-0.
He took down No. 62 Sandkaulen for his fourth ranked win of the year and third in as many matches: 1-6, 6-3, 6-3
Gray is cementing his place as a clutch player this season. He is now 6-0 in all singles matches, 2-0 in tiebreakers and 1-0 in third sets.
He is 2-0 at No. 2 singles this season this season and 17-5 over his career.
Gray has recorded a singles point for TCU in all six matches this season, the only Horned Frog to have done so.
Juan Martín recorded the second singles point for TCU, coming from behind for a 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 6.
He improves to 4-0 in dual singles play this season and 5-1 overall.
This was his first three-set match of the season. A challenge he responded to with the first 6-0 set victory of his career.
His victory tied the match at 3-3. With Luc Fomba entering his third set at No. 1.
Fomba battled through an intense match against Finn Reynolds on court one.
The first two sets had to be settled in tiebreakers before Fomba rattled off a pair of breaks in the third to seize the three-set victory and clinch the match.
This was his second No. 1 singles victory of the season and the third of his career. He is a perfect, 3-0 on top of the singles lineup.
Fomba's singles record improves to 4-1 this season.
This was the second clinching win of the season for Fomba.
TCU improves to 21-4 in singles matches this dual season.
The third set has been kind to TCU all season, the Horned Frogs are 6-0 in the deciding set this dual season, winning by a combined game score of 36-13.
